New here--At 75 do I still need to carry a knife?

The Spyderco ARK was allegedly designed as a knife you could take into the shower (or anywhere else).
Oh yeah, I read that recently! That is a wise knife to have, some places in the military are more analogous to a prison experience. Even the slang in the two groups is common - "Jodie" is the guy felons and soldiers alike hate.

I really hope the Civilian 2 is waved with a comp lock (tentatively, I say, as I am about to experience my first wave/comp lock experience and I don't know how it does without the tension of a backlock-type lock) and has 440c (that stuff is very, very waterproof right?) or H1 liners. They're also doing a reverse-S PM2.

I believe that is right. John Shirley is one of my fellow moderators at The High Road, and I seem to recall it coming up in “conversation.”
Correct. He's the designer for a weighs next to nothing neck knife meant to be carried to the shower by the troops for SD in case of attempted man rape which was a thing in Afghanistan. I bought one to support a great guy.

Hope posting in a 2-month-old thread isn’t considered necroposting … and if it is, I’ll probably forget before I’m done here anyway.

64 years old here, no idea where all those years went, but most days I feel every minute of it. Suffer from chronic CRS (all you other old farts will know exactly what that is, unless you’ve forgotten that, too). Some days I still feel like a kid, like when I’m here looking at all these beautiful pieces that you guys use and collect. I’ve carried a SAK with me regularly for as much if the last 40 years that I can remember, not because Ive needed to as a mostly career desk jockey, but just in case, like any other career desk jockey who carries a trusty SAK. That is, right up until this godforsaken plague hit, which has had me working from home since March ‘02 and most likely until I’m ready to call it quits for good. Not that that’s a bad thing - not dealing with RI traffic daily has done wonders for my blood pressure, but I digest. SAK’s are all I’ve had since my cub scouts days in the 60’s, save for an Estwing fixed blade I received as a gift a lot of years ago that has sat far more than it was ever used.

For whatever reason, I recently decided I wanted a decent quality EDC (which I didn’t even know it was called an EDC until I started looking for what I wanted). So I started researching brands, styles, blade materials, and of course prices. The search gradually narrowed down to some kind of assisted open, 3-ish inch blade, and a good steel that would hold an edge better than my lSAK but not be too difficult to sharpen. I finally settled on a Kershaw Blur S30V, based on its unassuming looks and all positive reviews, and placed my order earlier this week. A little more than I was looking to spend on my first me knife, but totally worth it. Shortly after ordering, I found this forum, and then yesterday my newest obsession arrived, and now I’m hooked. I’ll have this knife with me everywhere around the house, and also a lighter, cheaper, more legaler-to-carry Oso Sweet when I’m out and about (3” limit in RI - don’t want to chance soiling my squeaky clean record at this point in my life). The old SAK will probably still stay with me, just because I won’t always need that big honking recurve, but in a matter of a few days I’ve gone from an old fart with a couple of SAK’s in the drawer to one of you knife guys. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.

Danny Linguini Danny Linguini Chronic rhinosinitus? Chronic radiation syndrome?

And welcome! Whatever CRS is it doesn't seem to have dulled your wit.
Can’t Remember Sh*t. 😁

My father had it bad in his last few months. He had a little repertoire of witty comebacks to most casual conversations, so nobody caught on that he couldn’t recall what he did 5 minutes earlier. I’m not quite that bad yet, but I, uhh, I forgot where I was going with that. Oh yeah - I can remember a lot, just not for very long.

This thread started last September, so I am glad to still be kicking!

For me "CRS" is a series of "senior moments". I have used up quite a few, and have thousands of them remaining :)

From March:

My Guardian Tactical Recon 35 did arrive and I am liking it very much, though it is a little heavy (goes with the territory).

stock up for absent mindedness!
there is every possibility of it.
a minute ago it was in the pocket
and then somehow gone missing within the next...
more saks as a result ;-)
short term memory challenge y'all!
admittedly wasn't any good at tongue twisters from before.
now even getting past the second word is a goal...
