New Information Needed on the 2016 Forum Knife!

The only bone handles I have are Amber and natural stag, so I'd appreciate a color like red, green, or blue! Especially blue ;)

I wouldn't mind a nice subtle blue either. Nothing over the top like Case but GEC has been really good with their blue camel bone. I like that it doesn't penetrate the bone to the fullest extent leaving behind natural looking streaks and spots that would look great with some nice jigging and a worm groove or two cutting across.

Phil -just saw the pics, looked good ,but my son just woke up and i'll have to look again later. thanks is what i mean.
thanks, Neal

I like GEC burnt orange - I think if they could do an antique burnt orange worm groove it would look good. Not a very common color either.

I really like the wormgroove on MMM's scout knife. Most of the other worm groove with jigging doesn't really do it for me. It's too regular and not random enough. If GEC could do some jigging similar to S&M's whittler in Whiskey Catalina (which they might be getting from Culpepper?) with grooves like MMM's scout knife I'd be one happy camper.

The more dense and random the jigging the better. The more random the worm groove the better. Very patterned jigging with a long S shaped groove cut all the way down the handle isn't something I'm interested in. Hopefully we'll be able to get an idea of what the jigging and grooving will look like before it's time to order.

Something in green would be awesome. I have a couple red knives, a blue knife or two, tons of brownish knives, but no green or yellow. Either of those colors would be great, but I'm unsure how the wormgroove would look with the yellow. I think it'd be awesome in green, so that'd be my vote.

[threadinterrupt] I have no idea how old your son is, but as you probably already know, the days last roughly forever, and the weeks are flying by.

I'm glad I realized this when my children were little-- how Fast the time was going, no matter how long the days or countless the "interruptions-- but I still feel like I missed so much.

I am stunned that my own youngest son will turn 21 in August (my youngest daughter, youngest of all my children, recently turned 18).

The knife pictures will be here; your gratitude for the same is welcome in the midst of these threads, these days.

[I am grateful for everyone who takes the time to post. I gain so much every day, in others' giving of their time and thoughts and images, all that goes into sharing together, here.]

Your son? Treasure the Now, as I trust you are doing. [/threadinterrupt]

suddenly way too sentimental

This will be my first forum knife and as such will be treasured no matter what. Carbon steel, long pull spear blade, and any jigging and color to impart a traditional look seems most appropriate.

I personally think worm-groove looks strange on ivory or "un-natural" colored scales. Ideally I would prefer a dark color with a lighter color showing thru where the jigging and groove run, like a winterbottom scale has. A very dark black/brown with a amber or cream underneath would look nice.

if we had gone for a micarta then a blue or red would have been a good choice. This knife with a denim blue micarta would stand out.

Very late to this one.

Worm groove - yes. I'm sure GEC will hit it out of the park, but sharp lines and dye that does a good job of differentiating the hills and vales will really make this thing stick out.

Carbon steel - yes!

Long pull - yes!

I'm definitely psyched for this knife.

i'm wondering if there are any specifi colors that might help keep the cost down. i.e.-is there a surplus of a certain color? or does someone have just enough of a particular color to satisfy this order but not much more? etc. probably should leave the thoughts to myself, but it was something in the back of my head.
thanks, Neal

Pertinux-i realize this isn't the correct forum , but your words touched me deeply. my son is 16 months old and every day brings me new joy and wonder. thank you very much. kind words come so rarely these days and yours were truly appreciated.
thanks, Neal

Aw, thanks for letting me know. I was wondering if I should have said anything at all, let alone herel; your post just struck a throbbing nerve in my own heart. I'm grateful if my words were of worth.

On Topic: Worms and I do not coexist peacefully, so I don't welcome the notion of bone that a worm has crawled through, faux or no. On the other hand, I'm not sure we're still allowed to call anything "Indian Trail"...? Which is too bad, because I love the idea of a woods-walked path.

But then, what's in a name? As long as the bone looks good, and I dare say it will, I may be able to quell queasiness, shut out the nomenclature (nah-nah-nah-nah, fingers in ears, can't hear you), and rejoice in yet another a well-appointed pocket knife.

Sarah, maybe I can help you here. Since this is again, a new pattern, GEC should call this bone something new as well.

Charlie, if you can, maybe try to convince GEC to call this "Creek Bed Jig Bone". I hike a lot in the Allegheny National Forest and surrounding areas close to GEC. There's many small streams that get crossed in a day's hike. If you look at a dry creek bed, it contains the sharp pits, smooth spots, shallow grooves and random depressions that we are all hoping for on this knife.

Not only that, but being a Scout knife, Creek Bed Jig Bone fits perfect with the camping and hiking theme of which this knife will accompany many of us on our trips.

Charlie you are a prince!

A. Worm Groove? If you think it is popular enough you should do it, but I am out if it's like S&M's worm groove, in if it's like Cattaraugus'. I would definitely prefer no Worm Groove.
B. Long pull? Absolutely
C. Carbon sounds good to me.
