New Information Needed on the 2016 Forum Knife!

Jigging matters not to me.

Long pull. No match strike.

Either stainless or carbon is fine by me. Would carbon be O1 tool steel?

^ Thanks for posting that Bob. Something like that would be great on this year's knife.
So, yes on worm groove.
Yes on long pull.
Yes to stainless. (carbon is OK)
Acorn shield please.

Long pull absolutely, hopefully with Matchstriker.
How about CPM S60V?? GEC used it in the Northwoods Gladiator, and it's a great modern steel!!😝😝😝 I couldn't help myself, sorry!! 😋. I know Bill has said that he hated and will never use it again, and I'm not trying to throw a wrench in things! 1095 is fine with me, and I'm extra happy with a keener edge on the punch, as I use my punches often, and not just for leather. Still holding out hope that it's a double scalloped variety, but I trust Charlie.

I'm okay with worm groove bone with other hand gripping jigging added.
How about a nice deep red this year. We've had lots of brown based forum knives, a deep old Case era redbone with the worm groove would be great IMO, as well as practical in the field! Please think it over folks. GEC did a great job on my Outlaw in red and I think it would make the pattern stand out even more. With a couple of classy touches to bolsters as well😉

Charlie - Birds of a feather... Thanks for heralding yet another forum knife. If you're in need of any help for labeling art. Count me in.

Thank you very much, I feel that your great work is often overlooked with the polls and such being at a forefront. Know that as somebody with very limited artistic skills, I love seeing what is come up with!! This was supposed to go with my first post, but I guess the fates rightfully decided you deserved the post on your own!

Thanks again my friend!

A) $2 for a worm groove is totally worth it IMO. It is probably my favorite style of jigged bone aesthetically and reading through the traditionals forum you will often find enthusiasm for it. Frankly, I think a $2 premium is a drop in the bucket for something that is increasingly sounding like it will be both a beautiful and rather unique knife.

B) Long pull seems to be the default for a spear blade, which appears to be decided already (WOO HOOO! :D ;)). I don't think a poll is needed but I'm sure the comments to follow (which I haven't yet read) will flatly demonstrate the trend. I think the long pull looks perfect on the kind of spear blade that would most likely go on this size equal-ender. Also, while a matchstrike long pull works on some knives, I think a regular long pull is in order for this one.

My only counterpoint here is that we haven't seen any of the GEC artwork that shows exactly the proportions of the spear in relation to the frame, so there might be some folks who may not have decided pull vs. nick yet.

C) I did happen to see a number of people calling for stainless, though the number may have decreased after it was confirmed that the camp knife and forum knife were two separate projects. I am all about carbon for this particular knife, I plan on giving my user a natural patina I can be proud of. I think your instinct is right on the mark on this one, Charlie, but I also think we're not gonna get past the "carbon vs. stainless" question without an honest-to-goodness poll to sort it out.

I've got a few errands to run, but I will read over the comments in my downtime and remark further. Thank you once again, Charlie, for undertaking the effort! I think it's clear that we massively appreciate your stewardship on this one, especially those of us who haven't had a chance in the past to participate. :)

Wormgroove, Carbon and Long Pull!?!?!? I'm in all the way!!!
As far as a shield...I think being a camp style knife that an acorn style shield would be perfect for the pattern. Just my $.02

The new GEC camp knife is going to be a separate run. This year's forum knife is slated to be an equal-end, single-spring harness jack.

I believe the use of carbon precludes the acorn shield, assuming GEC isn't already done with it.

I do favor a clip blade too.

By most accounts, and Charlie's official poll thread, the master is going to be a spear (and presumably a standard one, not the Zulu spear some of us have been fancifully imagining :o).

Is this an example that appeals to people?

That's an affirmative, good buddy.

How's this work for the rest of you folks? If the forum knife approximates this kind of jigging/groove, I'll be ecstatic:

Would it be feasible to do the main blade in stainless, and the punch in carbon? You almost never see it mixed like that. Is there a reason?

Likely the increase in materials cost makes it untenable. In the HJ thread I believe the mixed carbon/stainless examples were discussed and one or two pictured.

We are definitely NOT talking the S&M type. As others have mentioned we are talking Grooves that overlay other jigging. Some examples have been posted. I will post some when I can get to my pictures.

I love you, Charlie. :o :p :D :D :D

Judging from Charlie's earlier posts, the options are 1095 vs. 440C, and the punch may also be decided.

If it comes time to vote, I will do so, but I'll use this opportunity to echo calls for old red bone. With that Robeson-style jigging and groove it would look incredible.

Anyone else getting really excited now? :p

I love carbon steel and long pulls. Would prefer a Rogers type jigging, but will buy whatever is chosen.

Honestly my biggest complaint about GEC Jigging is that it's too uniform, so yes, worm groove would be nice. I'm surprised they never offered winterbottom.

I think they have done a kind of Winterbottom, this Green version comes close.

This with a worm-groove or two cut across it would look pretty good I feel

long pull, nice..with match strike, nicer!!
carbon for sure
worm grove, very nice!

Thanks Charlie for sticking with us!

I prefer the Jigging that is on the Rope Knives that were just made. But I could live with worm groove.
Long pull with a match striker would be awesome.
Carbon steel is a go.

If we think about Spear blades, the 77 sports a very nice one, now that it seems Spear will be the Master.

GEC has put the Acorn shield on 1095 Fixed blades.... I was surprised  I thought it was only for SS.

No polls necessary for me. Worm groove bone, 1095 carbon steel and a long pull are all perfect with me.
Thanks very much again, Charlie
Dan
