New Kershaw Blurs...

The grind in the pics is a flat grind. Same one used on the s30v and cpm-154 blurs. The typical blur grind is a hollow grind.

What's so bad about the hollow grind that it would be a deal breaker. I know flat grinds are more desirable but why?

Personally, I find the flat grind nicer looking. The hollow grind had that vertical plunge line that just doesn't look great IMHO. The flat grind has a nice Smith transition between the flat and the grind

I agree that the flat grind looks nicer on the blurs.

Personal preference. I just don't like the hollow grind on the Blur. All of mine have the flat grind, and that's one of the reasons I wanted this knife.

BladeHQ also lists the S30V blur as being a "Hollow" grind, and the pic they have showing the blade steel definitely has the larger swedge of what y'all are calling the flat grind. I agree that I definitely prefer the flat, but I'm not convinced that's not what we're going to get.

BITEME, they specifically said that it would have a different grind from their pics? Or just that they considered it to be a "hollow" grind?

It may just be a simple misunderstanding, and I will call them today for clarification. When I bought my 1670BLK on the exchange, it had the same grind as what is depicted in the Blade HQ photos for the Elmax Blur. I emailed Kershaw to find out what they considered that grind to be, and the response I got was that it was a flat grind. The one with the vertical plunge line at the ricasso is the hollow grind.

I'll let everyone know what I find out. Blade HQ doesn't open for another hour or two.

I'm willing to bet they are flat ground. It's a lot easier to mess up naming the grind on a website vs making flat ground versions, distributing pictures and the producing hollow ground ones.

The pictures show flat grind and it's the actual knife.

That's my guess too. I can't imagine having a photo of the knife with one grind and then actual production being something different.

Good deal, daddyo. Thanks.

Just got a reply email from Blade HQ. What they are calling hollow grind is what I was told by a Kershaw rep to be flat grind, so there seems to be some confusion between dealer and manufacturer as to what is what. At any rate, the Blade HQ rep said that their guys are pretty accurate, so I'm going on faith that what is shown in the photo is what will actually ship.

grownstar, you didn't read this. :D

Sounds good. I would definitely prefer the flat grind. Thanks for looking into that.

Tom

Another pic just because I like posting pictures. Not as good as eschwebach's though.

Flat on top, hollow on bottom

That's consistent with what the Kershaw rep told me. Not sure why Blade HQ is calling the flat grind hollow.

I just heard back from the Blade HQ rep, and he checked on this and found that it is indeed a flat ground blade. They have corrected the description on their website.

I'm so glad I don't have to cancel my order! :)

Thanks for putting our minds at ease, bro.

Sorry if I wasn't supposed to read your post :p
