New locking SAKs coming?

So, the lock is only for the main blade? That's...more logical than my initial impression... Probably a bit fanciful of me to imagine a locking corkscrew. :o

Still, compared to other liner locks in the size and materials, plus added tools, it looks like a great value. I agree that the clip could've been removable (or in my preferred position at least), and I have concerns about that thin loop of aluminum at the end breaking off someday. I'll put one on my list and try it out eventually. It'll be good to hear some more reviews in the meantime. I especially want to see if someone who hates it on principle can give an honest opinion after some use.

I've got a shipping notice on mine, so we'll see what we see when my Synergy X gets here. If I end up really liking it, I'll probably try to get one of each of the other two models as well. I notice that that single blade OneFold model is more or less like the Victorinox 1 that I own, except it will actually have a locking blade and a clip. I will leave it to others to decide if the price works for them, given that the OneFold is roughly twice the price of a Victorinox 1, although as someone who generally dislikes having a knife swimming around in the bottom of a pocket, the clip makes it worth it to me, though I understand entirely why others might not see that same value proposition.

Looking forward to your review ! 🫣

I want to like these, so I will withhold judgement until I can fondle one. But here are my major reservations:

- The clip should be on the non-pivot end of the knife, especially on the “Onefold,” because otherwise it’s going to dig into your hand with any heavy use (ie carving).

- The liner lock is in the same backwards or “lefty” position as all other Vic lockblades. Which is really awkward to use for the majority of people who are right handed. Which is why I no longer own any Vic lockblades of this sort.

😢

Yeah I'm definitely in for a Synergy X.
I wish Victorinox had a custom shop.......... 🤣

Maybe some entrepreneuring 3d printer will get some cool inserts to fill in the bothersome cutout areas. I'm not sure it'll be as much of a problem as some would think, but it does offer customization options. Maybe glow options, push in from the back with a dab of superglue.

My main gripe as well, I really disliked Vic's implementation of liner lock on the models I've tried

I watched a video on these and one thing to keep in mind, is that it does not have a half stop and still has the very stiff walk of an Alox Vicrorinox. Personally, that doesn't bother me any as I tend to walk my slip joints all the way closed with a pinched blade.

Just keep it mind that you are going to have to use the weird "backward" liner lock of a Vicrorinox and ride the blade pushing against the back spring, so it might be one of those places where the free wheeling blade of a traditional liner lock would be a bit easier/safer.

That said, I'm 100% on board for the largest one. Having used the package opener for a week abroad, I am totally sold on it being a solid upgrade to the can opener no one has needed since soldiers stopped carrying canned food and people stopped being pretentious and just bought a damn $2 can opener instead of fighting their SAK. I really like it as a tool.

I do wish that they had something there besides the nail file thing. I have zero use for that. However, I dunno what it would be. A pen blade would be fine, but I sorta feel that the package opener now becomes your go-to for what modern people use a knife for and the main becomes your dedicated scalpel...which would also cut down on potentially closing it on your fingers if you were mostly smashing your way through stuff with the package opener and only breaking out the blade for fine cutting.

I do wish the pocket clip was removable and that will drive me bat-shit if I get one and snag the clip hard enough the bend it. Without being able to take it off, you can't even really bend it back properly.

Still, for $100 to get Swiss quality, a reasonable size, a set of serviceable tools, and a locking blade? I'm good with that. Not right now, but I imagine picking one up within the next several months.

I finally have mine in hand. It's wonderful. Everything I could reasonably ask for and some. My need for a cadet x is filled twice over. Same quality as any other victorinox I own. I feel the sheepishness of the lock is greatly over exaggerated. When holding it right handed, left hand on the blade I can press the lock lever with my pointer finger and close the blade enough to block the tab, then close normally. Feels natural. So overall, this a big win.

Glad to hear that it's easy to manipulate. I didn't see it as much of an issue other than i reviewer on YT mentioned it. I may get one of these sooner than later...
