New mass drop knife

too soon. they sold a lot of the first one, had i known this 2nd one was right around the corner and what it looked like i would have just got the 2nd one. either way who has that kind of money to throw at two knives so soon? not to mention wait so many months to get them. had they waited a few more months it may have gone over better.

first one was also marketed better. a review was done by skelton and he can sell poo in a box with a warranty on it then bro science got it. so a much wider audience saw it.

then there were a lot of comments about things they didnt like in the first one and they didnt do ANYTHING to remedy those issues with the 2nd version. ie way to big a logo, complaints about pocket clip etc. hopefully they learned a lot, and maybe the 3rd version will go over better.

Based on how many of both sold..... I say it went over very well.

I backed out before it finalized. Other things had come up.

Considering the timeframe between drops I suspect the Falcon and Crux knives used for pics were likely produced around the same time prior to the Falcon drop which is why no concerns were addressed. Honestly though, who knows if they'll ever address them. Massdrop may prefer to have the full logo on the blade and they, or a third party, can easily address the pocket clip as an add on accessory at a later date.

Like the Falcon, I put in my order within the first few minutes of the drop, but honestly I've debated cancelling it because the Crux just seems a bit boring to me and there's other knives out there that I have more interest in trying. It may also have something to do with the lack of reviews and info out in the wild compared to that of the Falcon. Based on not knowing exactly how often these knives will be available as drops in the future though I expect I'll stick with the order just to see what it's like.

Based on a pic of some CAD drawings hanging on a wall in the FF offices that was posted in the Massdrop discussion for the Crux it looks like they may have another couple of these collaboration knives in the works. Hopefully Massdrop has learned not to release them so close together though. Build up some interest with pics and reviews prior to and during the drop as well.

FWIW, Chris Williamson said this on the discussion board: "There's more than that."

Your guys thoughts echo mine as well - without the first knife in hand I'm not about to bite on a second one, it would have to be something I really wanted but the Crux is a "meh" for me. I got what I wanted in the 1st drop - ti, flipper, s35vn - sorry augustus88 :D Definitely curious to see what's down the pike but I think they need to deliver some of these collabs first to get some traction.

If someone has the Falcon for sale please pm me. Awesome knife from the looks!
I don't get my Falcon until Monday but I'm sure some will come available soon. Some folks who've bought the Falcon are looking to trade for the Crux, if that helps any.

Hang in there and watch the Exchange as these knives go live.

R Ruudr you'll have to spring for a paid membership of you want people to PM you.

I missed this knife on the drop... and managed not to see this thread until now.

How true. I'm just about sick of the gray......drab.
Unless it's a Seb!!
Dress it up a little. Maybe some color??
Not sure what they can do, but I definitely have enough Ti slabs.

I just hope they mix it up a bit in the future. Do we really need another S35VN, boring gray titanium slab, flipper, frame lock knife?

i got the falcon on friday. its a huge disappointment to me.

may sell it when i get back from vacation. we'll see tho, as im not decided yet.

What do you find disappointing about it?
too small. poor action. loctite and free spinning screws on both sides. too strong a detent. lockbar is not comfortable to release, straining your thumb. some folks didnt get such a strong detent like mine is. which i would prefer. it really sucks they are not consistent. its really for much smaller hands too. blade and blade profile is nice tho. ergo's are nice only when choking up in the finger choil.

its also so small that your fingers will go on the lockbar and wont open at all, straining your fingers. so you have to learn to use it without putting your fingers on the lockbar. rather annoying to say the least.

i give it a 5 out of 10. if i had small hands maybe 6 out of 10

Look at Boo's blades front flipper, also produced by WE for an amazing knife for an amazing price!

i give the boos blades a 8 out of 10. my major gripe with it was the edge that was not sharpened properly on a lot of them. especially at the heal. had that not been an issue then maybe it would be better. i sharpened it without issues tho. the next batch should resolve that issue tho.

Mine will be here tomorrow and if is as small as you say in the hand it will be up for sale tomorrow night. Not a big deal as I bought it on a whim anyway.

it really is small. i cannot get comfortable in the standard grip what so ever. and ive got medium to medium small hands. have to choke up and then its perfect. so if you want to primarily use it choked up, it will be fine, then again i dunno how it is in large or fat hands.

some folks have said nothing but good things about it. they very well could be fanboys or have small hands. or heck they probably just like the look or collect the knives. its a nice looking knife. if you collect or just like nice looking knives its great. if you have small hands it will probably be great.

the quality is okay. as i said before there is free spinning pivot and free spinning back spacer barrel. and both have loctite. it was really annoying cause none of the we knives i have, have any loctite. so i stripped my nice wiha t6. which is also annoying to have a t6 with loctite ughh. but the titanium, s35vn, and ceramic are nice quality.

the titanium scales are chalky and i don't like that feeling either. not as chalky as ive seen inexperienced ano modders do, but still a bit chalky.

i would prefer that they would make a grove in the inside of the release bar so my thumb could more comfortably unlock the lockbar from open. i would prefer that my fingers not go on the lockbar when opening, a design they executed poorly.

i wish i could flick the blade out with the hole in the blade. unfortunately thats not possible with this strong detent no matter how i hold it. i have already seen FFKW flick it open this way with ease and also someone else that go their falcon on friday too. so not all of them will be like this. sad that i got a poor example. i highly doubt they will do a return for this, and being that its rather small with issues i dont really want it.

it came drenched in oil from the factory.

visually appealing tho. after cleaning it out and lightly oiling it with better lube. the action did get slightly better, but the detent is still way to strong causing strain. its either the lockbar or the detent. not sure what as ive only had it since friday.

One thing I really like about a big "canvas" in titanium, is that it is relatively easy to add some color. A couple 9 volt batteries and a smidge of cola, will give you a pleasant anodized bronze color. Add one more battery (or was it two more, need to refresh my memory), in the line, and you get a nice sky blue. Granted home mods are not for everyone, but I find some of the easier ones fun to do. YMMV

It'll be a while before I can add my first impressions of these knives. My order for the Falcon was in the high 900's. And somewhere in the 400's for the Crux.
