New mass drop knife

A couple 9 volt batteries and a smidge of cola, will give you a pleasant anodized bronze color. Add one more battery (or was it two more, need to refresh my memory), in the line, and you get a nice sky blue. Granted home mods are not for everyone, but I find some of the easier ones fun to do.

I'm planning on the Falcon for my first in-home anodizing experience!
Size wise, I'm hoping it'll fill the same niche as a mini-Grip.

I personally like the mini grip better. Was cutting up some paper with the Falcon and it's decent enough for that task without issues in assortment of grips. Next task will be cardboard. Tho I'm used to much larger knives for this.

Sweet. Let us know how it goes. I'll be doing both my Falcon and Crux. Not sure how just yet. Thinking of trying a splatter.

Very disappointing to read these negative reviews I will probably try to sell mine if it is what they say it is. Going to be a tough secondary market on these though.

I'm not seeing a lot of negative reviews on the knife. I haven't had time to look at YouTubers, but the overall reception on MD is positive. The only complaint I see are some clip or body screws that won't come out.

I respect MO2's opinion but I often find he like or dislikes knives for reasons that are mostly irrelevant to me. Hang in there and make your own decision when you get it in hand. Mine is currently riding in the bottom of a mail bag on the back of a crippled pack mule stuck in the mud on the bank of a distant river...

Gotta love UPS Smart Post

Your right I shouldn't prejudge just go in with a open mind and hope for the best.

Got my Falcon today, serial #0415. Like others have mentioned it came doused in oil but cleaned up quickly. I have to say, I kind of love it. Fits nicely in the hand using the finger choil and the overall build quality seems well above it's asking price. It makes the decision on whether to get in on the Gent drop tomorrow a whole lot easier.

The Gent looks very interesting. For the price I may have to give on a try...

The gent should, imo, outsell the other two drops. This type of product, with this type of sales and marketing channel, should be a nice boost for the industry as a whole. Outstanding project.

Edit: Just "Joined Drop" for this one.

I really like mine, but the one thing keeping it from being a solid gem for me is the jimping. Way to aggressive. The edges of it are sharper than the blade to me. Considering what to do about. Might not bother some who have calloused up hands, but a wee bit bothersome. Other than that it is a sweet little blade. It would be even better with a 3.25 inch blade and bigger overall, but I am not going to ding it for being small - that is how it was designed. No one buying this should be surprised by that if they read the specs. If they make a big brother, I would be on it.

I dunno. The Gent looks like a great design, so clean and not what I'd expect from FF. I was really excited and going to jump on the Drop this morning (I think it has already done better than the other two first day - so Auston is right) but I got my Falcon yesterday morning.

And man oh man, my Falcon is a dog. As mentioned it came packed in oil like your standard $45 DHGate clone, nothing wrong with that - a lot of knives delivered and who knows what sort of rusty Massdrop barge they'll be stored in. Typically, you just keep flipping for a day or two and work through it. Yeah, well after a day and night and day of fidget flipping, it got even worse. Just like a DHGate $45 clone. Makes a scraping sound. Deploys lightswitch about 30% of the time (with a lot of English I might add), likes push-button but has a pointy tab top (pretty stupid IMO).

The detent is slightly weak so it can be easily finger deployed (most WE's are a bit soft anyway). However, I'm left handed, have big hands and there's no place I can put my thumb but right on the lockbar. So, apparently I need to take it apart and see if there's a bunch of metal shavings in the bearing tracks. I've already heard "free spinning pivot" and "red Loctite" being bandied about. I seriously can't believe WE stuck this together. The fit and finish is excellent, but just wow. Granted, I'm picky. I got a Brous Reloader that was similar in its poor deployment, and I sold it rather than take it apart to play with it. But I'm not comparing to a $700 or even a $200 knife. I had plans to send the Falcon off for anodizing, so it would come apart anyway. I expect to have to take apart a Ti DH knife for $45, for a cleaning, but not something built by WE!

I'll report back - I already posted a video on IG comparing to a similarly sized $50 CH 3504 Mini, which has world class performance. Falcon pales in comparison. I've got a Crux coming too.

[edit] somebody posted a video response to my video - their knife appears perfectly normal. WE might have just let some slip through to meet their (early) delivery window. That's a lot of knives.

image.jpg That's too bad yours has such issues. I would reach out to them for replacement. My detent is perfect and I am sitting here flipping it while I type this. And it is smooth and drops shut. Is pretty darn fun. Yours must just have been a dud or something. That sucks especially after having to wait like 4 months to get it.

Anybody got a ZT0900 or a mini-grip for comparison pics with the Falcon?

Update 9/16/17:
Both Massdrop and WE responded to my video on IG, which I am posting here:

Hey @tony.meador - Bummer, I know you waited a long time for this. So, a few things we can do... 1) The suggestion to disassemble, clean, lubricate the bearings and reassemble is a good one - @weknives also saw your video and suggested the same. Having @stassa23 do a video of this would be cool, so go for it if you want to. 2) Massdrop and WE Knife back this with a warranty against defects and we want you to be 100% happy, so if you'd rather send it in for an exchange, just submit a help ticket in My Transactions of your member profile. 3) We have replacement bearings en route now anyway, so if 1 and 2 aren't good options, we have you covered. Sorry it wasn't perfect out of the box, but thanks for making a video to show it well. Also bonus points for lefty framelock user

So, I think this shows they're more than willing to stand behind the product. Other IG responses indicated there is no red Loctite on the hardware. Is it random knives that received it during the QA process? Or some have more than others? I don't know, but I told them I would be disassembling the knife before sending for review. I'll try to take it apart as if there was no Loctite first, and move to plan B if it appears there is. At this point I know I'm covered, so if I screw up the hardware I move to offer #2!

Good to hear.

I finally have mine in hand after being on the road all week and am thoroughly impressed. I'll have time to share more thoughts later.

MassDrop is doing a great job so far as a knife producer!

^^^Everythimg above is encouraging! :thumbsup::thumbsup:
I didn't get into the Falcon until late, so I'm still in a bit of suspense for its arrival. I'm glad most responses tend towards positive.
I was into the Crux near the front of the line. :D

Yeah, I didn't care about a low serial number but now I wish I'd jumped on the Falcon sooner so I could have it earlier.
The Crux didn't light any fire in me so I passed on it but I did reserve a Gent. That one seems to be very popular. I'm sure the price point isn't hurting it.

The new Massdrop / Ferrum Forge "Gent" is really an incredible deal, especially compared to the Delica I just bought.

For about $10 more than a Delica you get:
- S35VN instead of VG10
- Titanium and G10 handles instead of FRN
- Ball bearing flipper instead of bushings
- Carbidized frame lock

Both knifes are similar in size and weight as well.

It's really a steal and now I'm considering buying a second one.
