NEW MEMBER THREAD! If you're new to the forum post it here.

Hello BladeForums community! I'm thrilled to join as a new member and lifelong knife enthusiast!
😊

My knife journey began about 20 years ago with a Ka-Bar USMC, and since then, I’ve grown to love ESEE, Becker, and Cold Steel for their durability and performance. For folders, I currently EDC a Benchmade 940, which I absolutely adore for its sleek design and reliability.

By day, I’m a Chief Information Security Officer, but I recently left the hustle of the big city to embrace a simpler life. I purchased a remote rural property in a serene mountain community in Europe, settling into a charming home built around World War II. Exploring the property has been like stepping back in time—I discovered two antique looms, a manual corn husker, a grain grinder for livestock feed, a fully functional treadle sewing machine (still threaded!), a five-blade tractor plow, and, most exciting for knife folks like us, roughly 800–1,000 kg of leaf springs!

I’m eager to reconnect with my passion for the outdoors, knives, and tools, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. Those leaf springs are calling—any tips on forging or knifemaking for a newbie? Also, what’s your go-to EDC or outdoor blade? Excited to learn from this amazing community!
Welcome. Check out

Howdy folks,
New member here. Interested is knife and leatherwork. Sharpening with a Kadet pro but thinking of starting freehand in the near future. I also enjoy making sheaths and holsters and such. Lots of knowledge on this site. So glad I finally joined. Anyway, just a quick introduction. Thanks!

Long time lurker, have use this form many time for knife questions and now felt it was time I became a member.
Most of my knives are small edc’s like Spyderco, Wesn and Victorinox because I need a knife several times a day in my work and even using my Benchmade Mini Bugout makes people in the city look at you cross eyed. Also have some beloved hunting knives like my Puma White Hunter that I use for my avatar and some totally impractical knives like my Al Mar Fang I that I love but is frowned upon by law-enforcement in the state of Virginia so I don’t carry it much.

Hello everyone,
I became interested in knives a year ago. I was looking for some interesting passion that could suck me in. It turned out that knives/blades are something for me. On top of that I've been interested in survival and prepping for a year now.

Welcome to the forum! Same here — I was also looking for a hobby, and knives really pulled me in. Do you already have any favorite models or specific areas you're most into — EDC, bushcraft, or maybe something more tactical?

I’ve been a long-time lurker, and I’m excited to finally join this wonderful forum as a member. I’ve already learned so much just by reading, and I’m really looking forward to learning even more from the knowledgeable members here.
Thanks for having me!

Welcome, this is a pretty cool place.

Greetings fellow blade inthuists. Thanks for letting me into your forum. My screen name is what I use in other forums. Mostly gun/pepper/ survivalist/homestead kinda thing. I got into knifes because I considered them tools to perform a task just like my gun collection. Over the years I have amassed quite a collection of knives. SAK, Leatherman,Buck, KA Bar and a few odd balls. Stewart's Hand made, J Russell Green River , J Martini fillet knife. And 1 lone Wenger SAK with a lock blade and a Tramontina machete. All sitting in a drawer with 2 9mm's 1 357 and a 22 revolver. I'm located in Jefferson Parish just outside of New Orleans. Gun and Knife shows come around on a regular basis. And yes I did read the rules. LOL.

Welcome partna! Sounds like you have a sweet collection! You should post some pics of what knife you're carrying each day in the " EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?" in the "General Knife Discussion" section if you want.

Thanks. My EDC is a Leatherman Charge Titanium, pawn shop rescue. Most of my collection came from either pawn shops or flea markets. They make for interesting findings.

Hello all, just joined but have occasionally read posts for several years. I have some interest in knifemaking and I like to buy various pocket knives as I carry one daily.

Seems like a well moderated place, thanks for that.

Hello. I first registered here quite a while back, but this is my first post. I've visited here quite a few times to research various knives I was interested in. I'm not a collector, per se, just another guy who likes knives and has a modest accumulation which could potentially become a collection. I also have a respectable accumulation of sharpening stones, which were mostly inherited from my dad. I generally acquire knives that, in my imagination, will serve a utilitarian purpose -- my partial justification for knife purchases. As I always try to become more educated in things I'm interested in, I've recently started researching the steels used in knives, particularly those I own or would like to buy.

Currently 73 years old, I used to be a hunter in younger years but have always been a hardcore fisherman.

My most recent knife acquisition is this week's purchase of an older Buck 121 Fisherman (1972-1982). A nice addition to my Buck knife collection, and I think it looks cool, too.

The very first knife I owned was my Camillus Cub Scout knife I received around 1958-59. I still have it and do occasionally use it.

Hi everyone! I've been on the forum for years looking at all the cool handmade knives listed in the exchange, as well as reading various threads on EDC, knife making, and knife modification, but I've never posted anything until now. I've been doing EDC since I was a kid back in the 80's and 90's - carrying a folder, a multi-tool, sometimes a fixed blade, a lighter, and usually some type of cord (I carry more than that now). I've been customizing and making gear from scratch most of my life. I started trying to make my own knives in 6th grade, and I carried some of them at the time - even though they were only mild steel and didn't hold much of an edge. After four years in the military and five years in college, I bought a forge and began experimenting with making knives out of leaf springs and heat treating them with a motor oil quench. I enjoyed doing it and got ok results, but I really wanted to make knives to sell and I needed consistent quality and repeatable dimensions. Over the past decade I've been very slowly working on a couple lines of knives, and this past year I've focused a lot of effort into this project. I get my blanks waterjet or laser cut, and I send my blades to Peter's Heat Treating to ensure they're properly hardened. I do all my own designing, grinding, polishing, etching, handle-making, Kydex sheaths, sewing and cord-work. This past year I've learned about CAD/CAM and I've been using a CNC mill I built from a kit to make fixturing, tools, sheath molds, and handle scales. Aside from knifemaking, I'm into fitness training, self-sufficiency, target sports, and outdoor adventures. I'll begin listing my knives (and maybe some other tools and gear items) for sale in the exchange soon, and I'll look forward to participating in discussions here on the forum. Thanks!

While we love having new members join Bladeforums.com the overwhelming amount of "New Member Introduction" threads has dropped the most responded to and watched threads to the bottom of the page or the 2nd page.

So, with that said I'd like to ask that all new members to post an introduction in THIS THREAD ONLY! Please don't start a separate thread. Those of you who recently became new members and posted already will have their threads left open and they will not be merged with this one.

Some helpful tips for new members:

1. Read the BFC rules BEFORE you post anything!
