New Military Sprint!! CPM Rex 45

I don’t expect it to sell out as fast as the other sprints but I certainly don’t expect it to be around for a long time like the m4 or 204p sprint.

I’ll give it a week, 5 business days before a dealer sells out. Maybe weekend included.
Any other predictions ?

I had a chance to buy a pm2 when a member posted their availability at knifeworks, which lasted about 12 minutes. But I rarely if ever use pm2’s, so I’m thinking the Millie will be available for at least 2 days. At $34 more,(I think) it will be worth the extra handle room and blade length.

Military >> PM2 ;)

I've been lucky so far, though the para 3 was a little too close for comfort.

I don't think the millie will go as fast as the 2 or 3. It's huge, right handed and tip down only. (Or at least that's what I'm telling myself) lol.

I do not expect it to sell out fast. I am a Military junky. If you look at all the previous exclusives/sprints none moved that fast. Most are still available. The BBS S90V, 52100, CTS204P, M4, and CF/TI S90V are all still easy to get. I just finally bought a 52100 sprint BNIB last week for $40 less than they originally sold for. A few dealers still have the 52100 in stock. The two Ti versions are discontinued and deeply discounted and are still available. I think that I will safely have three months to pick a REX45 up, maybe longer. Keep in mind that it isn't even legal to carry for many people.

I truly believe that the Para2 and Para3 sell so fast because of this very mentality. There is a craze and frenzy caused by a fear of missing out. This is what fuels the hysteria. I just haven't seen that happen with the Military yet.

Finally, you got an avatar! I'm with you on the Military. No buying frenzy, means I can get one without jumping through any hoops!

I may have to pick up one or more of these newer models one of these fine days.

Only Military I own is the 440V version from the late 90's (as I recall).

Nobody around here really cares what size knife I have in my pocket. Maybe if I were in a restaurant or shopping in town it might be different.

Ha! Yeah, I am not as good at selling knives as you are but I finally had to thin the herd. Plus, Spyderco seems to be dropping too many knives for me to keep up with lately so I had to liquidate a little. Since I finally ponied up for a gold membership I figured I might as well add my avatar. It is a picture of my dog who's nickname was bearfacedkiller which is where my username came from. RIP Rita, I miss you!

I hear ya. I am a lover of the Stretch and the Military and it is nice to not have to participate in the frenzy to get one. The crazy thing is that I have gotten every one of the Delica and Para2 sprints that I wanted without issue. Cooler heads prevail and all that. :)

RIP Rita! I'd say that the Manix, Endura and Military all take the cake for me. I used to keep tons of knives sitting around, but nowadays, if I'm not going to use it, I get rid of it!

Yes, that seems to be the prime mover, which then also fuels the flippers' motivation. The initial price bumps/flips cause more consternation for buyers before the runs have completed distribution. Seems to have increased in intensity with social media influence in the last few years.

Let's hope the Military continues to march along, with enough interest to generate new versions, yet sell at a more sedate and predictable pace.

Looking forward to REX Militus.

Yeah, the fact that people are willing to pay flipper prices while they are still trickling out just proves it. I won’t pay flipper prices anyway but I certainly wouldn’t be doing it before they have even sold out. The fear of missing out seems to have a powerful effect on people.

The only times I have missed out on a sprint/exclusive was when I didn’t have the money and even then with a little patience I have been able to get it eventually with little or no markup. You just can’t let your desire get the better of you.

So what you're saying, in effect, is that you need "Military Discipline". (Sorry, couldn't let that one pass. :p)

Military Discipline - it is the training that develops self control, character, and efficiency and as the result of such training implies subjection to control exerted for the good of the group. It is the state of order existing within a command.

Well played! :)

Thank you.

You'll also appreciate another play on words in that my dog and I faced a bear which we did not kill last night.

We were coming back from out late walk in our wooded area when what I would consider a yearling was coming at a moderate lope toward us. It stopped at about forty feet and veered off. Probably didn't like the glare of my headlamp.

Since I didn't know for sure if it was as yet a solitary bear, we went back to the house, (only a matter of 100 feet away at the time), in case mama was about. (Bear encounters are not unusual here.)

Spyderco content: I had the PM2 S110V in pocket at the time. (And a S&W J frame which would have been essentially worthless in the circumstances but is carried primarily for two legged critters around home and environs.)

Glad everything worked out and everyone was safe! Bear encounters are pretty common here. I have a huge garden, tons of berry bushes, fruit trees, 18 chickens and a compost pile. I had one picking apples off my apple tree about a week ago. They love my house. I have let the dog out a few times first thing in the morning and she has chased one off. It makes me nervous but luckily none of them have stood their ground yet.

A Jframe is certainly at the very least a good noise maker. I would assume it would at least scare one away. I hope that in a pinch that my SP101 would be good enough for the small black bears around here.

Rita's name actually had to do with her looking like a bear and having a stern disposition and not any interactions with bears. I don't think she ever saw one in her life. I didn't live here then.

Sorry for going so far off topic. Bring on that Military! :)

My (late) Weimaraner would bark when they'd come up on our deck. Usually it seems they try to avoid the dogs. My current one is smaller than the Weim, (Staffie / Boxer mix), but she gives up nothing in gumption.

Thanks for the good wishes. I love bears. And Spydercos too!

The only thing that might push this Military to move faster than before is the new steel and great handle color. It's been so difficult to grab the PM2 or PM3 so I suspect more people will move to the Military in this case. I almost got a Military but scored a PM2 last Wednesday

I suspect the military in rex 45 will be the only one not to sell in minutes like the others, well, not after the initial frenzy dies down. Some people just won't want a blade that big or can't have a blade that big. Well we will all know the truth of it soon enough....

Not saying it will be as popular as the PM2 but I think it will be more popular than other Military runs

A lot of my reasoning for this is that I haven't been this biggest Mil fan but even I was thinking of getting one when the PM2 seemed out of reach

Bear encounters,,, here in NW CT we are infested with the buggers.

One climbed into a neighbors new Subaru, after she made a dump trash run, and totaled the car trying to get out.
Two have climbed into private homes and trashed the house looking for eats,,,, on woman woke up in the morning with a furry visitor in her bedroom.

The DEP are reluctant to dispatch the people friendly bears and will just tag and relocate to another more less populated area. We are not allowed to shot them, protected by whining tree huggers.

A close friend has one walking into his garage several times a week,,,, rather concerned with a playful 4 yr old running around the yard all day. Mom and 3 cubs are in his yard every week.

Military,,, yes,,, cannot wait for the Rex 45 to arrive.

Regards,
FK
