New/Recent Hinderer Scores Thread...a place to share and comment.

There are those who retire and "snowbird" and the occassional dress slacks that are usually lighter in weight than jeans or ACU/BDU's so.... yes the 3" has a great niche :)

Yeah, my thoughts were for when the wife drags me to something where jeans/carhartts/camo would be out of place

While I do everything possible to avoid wearing my blues, a 3" would work well in the polyester blend horror they call pants. Plus I would love to rock the 3" DLC in our formal black-tie uniform. That is, if mine still fits....

God above. WHY was polyester ever invented? Answer: To torture those who are called to wear it. I never raised my hand to an oath that included " You swear to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America and wear Polyester to events that you do not want to attend" and yet........

I've done fairly well avoiding them, I've literally done two separate four years stints without having to put them on. The first four years ended when I had to attend PME in residence and the second four ended when our previous CSAF decreed "blues Mondays" - had to wear them unless on an operational mission or maintaining something. I couldn't always pull it off, but I did my level best to ALWAYS be on a mission on Mondays ;) Thankfully, the new CSAF did away with that policy within a couple of weeks of taking over - gotta love mission focus vs office queep.

I'm honestly looking forward to trying a 3" but it's going to have to be something unique to beat out my 3.5s for carry time. I'm a long way off from that I'm afraid after my recent acquisitions. :) maybe in a few months.

I've have had three 3" XMs so far and they never last long. Just too small for me. I feel like they are going to fly out of my hand because I can't get a good grip on them. Most people I would hand them to loved the size though. XM-24 has been my EDC this week. Love the size of that thing, but if I could only choose one for EDC it would probably be the 3.5". If I could only choose one for end of the world last folder, it would be the XM-24. :D

The 3" XMs are small, but that has its benefits. Robust as hell in a very portable size!

It's nice that different sizes exist since people's needs/wants differ or change. Variety:thumbup:.

New Blue Ano Ti scale.

*** Rob, it fits like a glove***

It still amazes me how you can take a great looking knife, add a few accruements and transform it into a stunner of a knife! Rick, Rob and company are on the top of their game.

Got so much Hinderer goodness coming in today. Can't wait. :D New slicer, bunch of new accessories from the ranch and a Wharnie on Monday. :D

Dang, mailman just left and no Slicer. Day 4 in limbo :S They swore it was coming in today :S

Oof, that sucks. Waiting is bad enough, but to have it not show on the expected day - I think my head would explode :)

Yeah, it was supposed to be here Tuesday, but has been at the "sort facility" since then. Finally got some movement this morning but didn't show up. Maybe Monday :S. Got all my stuff I ordered from the Ranch right on time though. Ordered it Wednesday, had a shipping confirmation within a half an hour of ordering it and it arrived today. Lotsa new scale colors to dress up my tools. Or as my girlfriend says, I got new accessories for my accessories :D

Ah, the infamous "sort facility" :)

Yeah, my wife tends to mock my knife accessorizing... I need to get her sold on carrying one, I just can't seem to get her to keep one in her pocket - it always ends up lost in her purse.. She carries a Kimber religiously but can't seem to see the use of a knife, I should quit cutting stuff for her...

I got one! Yayyyyyÿ!

I wanted one for a while and I preferred a 3 inch over the 3.5...I sent RHK quite a few emails...all of which Rob replied to within literally a few hours of me sending the emails…straight shootin’ guy who’s to the point. So in my book, he’s awesome and I’d buy him a beer.

I went months not being able to find any 3 inchers under a grand. Right after I spent more money than I should have, a member here was kind enough to sell one for a very reasonable price, and so I jumped on the offer even tho it was a 3.5 inch as I could not resist! It's a gen4 with black G10 and blue anodized clip/plug in S35VN/spanto...which is perfect as I did not want anything special or limited as the knife is going to be used pretty heavily and I like a steel that’s easy to maintain.

I purchased a Blue-Black G10 grip from RH and within 3 days it was on my doorstep…I like...it vernice!

I am a longtime CRK fan and I absolutely love the XM-18. The most important similarity to me is the lock type, as I really like the Reeve Integral Frame Lock for longevity and simplicity of maintaining. But beyond that, it's a different knife than my CRKs, and I can really appreciate the work, thought, skill, and passion that goes into both. My experiences with CRK have all been fantastic and I could recommend them to anyone. While my experience with RH has been far more limited, thus far it has also been fantastic.

Of all the things that impress me about the XM-18 tho, the top is this...I've owned/handled many knives and the XM-18 is the ONLY knife I have ever handled that one can pinch the handles together as hard as they can and still have the blade open without any additional resistance at all. I assume that is due to the massive standoffs/spacers being able to better distribute force because of lots of surface area, and it is a really nice real-world performance feature given one tends to grip a knife hard in some situations when opening, which is something most people do not think about this, but are often annoyed when it occurs. I think I can also come to really like the spanto. I am torn in a world of blade strength versus slicing ability for finesse cutting and I think despite the blade being hella thick for strength that it will give me the balance I look for. It also seems the edge is going to be easy to maintain whether I use my EP or a crude field stone.

Now that I have experienced one myself, I really, really hope RH can progressively ramp-up production so others can enjoy the XM. From a maker’s perspective through knowing the people of a company that produces CNC-machined iPhone cases, I realize increasing production is an investment that quickly becomes a 6 or 7 digit figure for new machines, new training, new certifications, larger physical spaces, changes in building codes, electrical system retrofits, upgrade downtime, and a significant amount of time finding/training someone for the skilled labor which is required (i.e. there is a lot involved and the high monetary and time costs make it difficult for smaller businesses to often meet demand). From a consumer’s perspective, hopefully when they increase capacity, there will be more dealer price control through greater supply, so more people have a privilege of enjoying the XM’s as they are very pleasing knives and are one of the premier folding knives of the era, IMHO. And (most importantly,) from my immediate perspective, I really want your blue titanium standoffs for my knife and cannot find them ANYWHERE!!!!!! yarrrrrrrrrrrr
