New release: Recon 1 in S35VN & SATIN finished

The threads I linked are from 2005 and 2007.
They are direct quotes from Sal.
I'm more dubious of those who paraphrase Spyderco without any source material.
Be as dubious as you want, do you think i have shares invested in an anti-DLC factory? I'm totally making it all up, so is RevDevil your moderator, and so are the other guys who seem to remember the Spydie team making those statements. But hey, we're all lying because we don't have a thread to link you. Makes total and complete sense. You know what, i don't even care really, if DLC helps corrosion resistance - that's good for everyone. But everything i have stated regarding Spyderco guys actually making those statements happened, thread to link or not, regardless of how dismissive you want to be about it. You do realize that you claiming that RevDevil, myself and the other guys in that thread are all making this up out of thin air is a much more far fetch claim to be "dubious" about than 3 or 4 different guys having no affiliation with each other all claiming to remember it happening.

I don't doubt your intentions. The problem is that someone may have misremembered down the line. Then someone else repeats what they wrote. And so on and so on.
There's no question that Spyderco coats some blades for the sole purpose of light discipline. That's why they offer TiCN coated H1 Salt knives.

Yeah that's fair enough, word of mouth can get messy and credibility is justifiably questionable when it gets too far gone. Cheers

OMG OMG!!!! I am so happy! Finally, you can get a mod free satin finished recon 1's! Hopefully, they will be reasonably priced. Why am I excited you might ask? because they look less murder-y to Mr and Mrs Doe!

Why choose s35vn over xhp?
In my opinion and from looking at their catalog, this was bound to happen eventually. They already offer it in other blades (lucky one/two, ranch boss, and the cute keychain one), so might as well expand your selection. I would like to think that this is the same as when they introduced the cts steels.

I agree. I wonder if the choice of steel with this dealer exclusive resulted from a dealer request. The description of the exclusive by the dealer suggests this. Hopefully CS will use uncoated xhp in future offerings.
I would imagine that cold steel gave them their catalog and told them to pick one of their steels. And hopefully the s35vn is priced well, because if this is their first time doing a dealer exclusive, I would personally like to see it +/-20$ so that when they expand to s35vn lawman and code 4 it would be similarly priced.

*Edit after looking on website- I can live with the price, not enthusiastic about it, but I can live with it...

Having a satin S35VN Recon 1 or American Lawman added to regular production would have been better than any of the 2018 releases
Exactly. I swear they are asleep at the wheel lately, first the epic fail of the SR1 blade play and crappy screws and fine threading, now this terrible lineup for 2018. The Storm Cloud might prove to be decent tho, even tho it has a bit of cheesy name and logo. It's almost like they aren't working with any good designers or Demko has just bailed completely from the design dept. Seems so obvious that a stonewashed satin lawman, AK and recon lineup would make them a ton more money than what has been shown so far for 2018.

As a Recon 1 fan, the Bush Ranger looks really good to me. The Storm Cloud is interesting too.

As I stated before, I think that this too is part of the change that has been happening over time, AESTHETICALLY I really didn't like the folding lineup for the new products the past couple of years but I still bought 3 recon sizes last year because I do believe that they are tough and reliable. I still believe that they are tough and reliable even though I stupidly caused bladeplay by wrongly chopping through a piece of wood (voided warranty as well by ruining the teflon washers with compressed air, yes I was very new to knives). I want to say that it's fine that they rest on their laurels, but this came out, and it's answered my question of 'what's next that's going to bring them back to the spotlight?'

How do you ruin washers with compressed air?
Too much pressure on washers that are lubed with reel oil, also it took me 2 weeks to find the copper washer in my college dorm (it was very dirty and I really didn't want to clean).

It’s going to take something pretty special from cold steel to kick this out of my pocket.
Well ain't that a beaut! How hard will you be pushing your recon 1? And do you think people will be more accepting of a satin blade? Or do you just not care if people gasp at the sight of a knife?

It has seemed obvvious to me that sales of a satin cts xhp version of the Lawman and Recon1 would be great. Perhaps the reluctance to develop these knives comes from a concern that the popularity of the black bladed versions would be diminished.

more people are intimidated by a mean black blade than a satin one, at least i think. I've yet to have anyone freak out over me using a knife in public though. I generally carry a 4max so it kind of dwarfs a recon. I have beat the hell out of recon's with out causing any blade play or any other issues. Particularly hammering it down between baseboards and the wall and using it to pry them loose. Along with regular use around the ranch.

For me, it's more of the size which is why the mini recon is my actual preferred EDC right now. As a suburbanite, taking out my recon 1 is a no no for small things like letters, packages of candy, and food cutting. However, wood+ recon 1= HEAVEN. Great to see that you won't baby a knife that knows how to get a job done!

It's going to be my primary daily user so I'll be using it for everything that calls for a knife. On weekdays I work in the IT industry so it will see light use, but on weekends I spend all my time renovating investment houses so it will see plenty of use. As for the shock factor in public, I live in Australia so pretty much any knife spotted in public would be followed by fainting women, S.W.A.T teams descending on me from above and TV news crews at the scene. I think a Recon would scare the daylights out of anyone in my nanny state. Swiss army knife would be the only thing you can get away with here.

Yeah that could be a contributing factor also, I just hope they reach a point where they feel that anyone who is going to buy their black blade versions probably has had their fill, so they then introduce the satin variants.

I like this one a lot, where did you get the uncoated version? All I've seen are the black coated recons, looks nice congrats.
