New run of 48 Weasels, Hawthornes, DJ's, and IT's!

Mark, my reaction to seeing your AB 48 for the first time was, "Wow!!! What kind of wood is that?"
Highly figured wood is (usually) my favorite handle material so I think I prefer the grain and colors in yours over solid black. More character and totally unique. Beautiful knife my friend, I like it alot!
I have to agree with red sparrow. I was hoping for a darker AB but yours is beautiful with the browns mixed in and the side by side shots with the rotten banana are awesome. Mine is at the post office and I think I am gonna love it after seeing the others posted on here.

These are my acquisitions from this run. Very happy with the 48 pattern. They are only my 2nd, 3rd and 4th GEC-made knives. Like them a little better than my #15 cap lifter. We'll have to see which of them see more pocket time.

Does anyone know the origin of this bloodwood is? Wikipedia and Google both give me dozens of species and origins from around the world. It appears to match the South/Central American bloodwood, but I'd like to know for sure.
I have to admit, mine doesn't even look like real wood. Has an unnatural glimmer to it.

I know the feeling. I was hoping for 'Black' Blackwood. I do like it, just wish it was black like the first run.
Your RBB is still very cool!

But that Blackwood!!! That is what Blackwood should look like!!

Heres a closer look at mine! Very happy with both!

That is some beautiful wood Ramrodmb Ramrodmb I get that you're a little disappointed but objectively it is a beauty!

I usually prefer single blade traditionals but that improved trapper is growing on me the more I look at it. It has a nice, sleek profile when closed. I missed out on the rotten bananas, but the blackwood is tempting me, gotta admit.

Photo of Lone Star (Stella for short *g*) just because. Between the light pull and pinchableness, she's getting lots of carry time and use. Easily my fav. of the bunch. :)

That looks great AlwaysTomboy AlwaysTomboy ! Knowing you had to make a couple phone calls to get it, we very much appreciate it!

I guess I am amongst the minority here, but I prefer the Browns and color variations in the AB. (Especially yours Ramrodmb Ramrodmb ).

I see it as a Dark colored hybrid of Cocobolo and Desert Ironwood.

Thanks NJBillK NJBillK !! That is a good description.

Thanks James!! Appreciate the kind words. It is unique and doesn't look like any AB I have. I like it more every time I handle it!!

That African Blackwood! I was on the fence with this one - until seeing some pics posted here. Ramrodmb Ramrodmb - I like the dark/less dark grain!

Thanks for the nice comments GE Jr GE Jr !

Thanks for the compliments Fodderwing Fodderwing ! I look forward to seeing yours as well!

Thanks for your perspective AShearer AShearer ! The disappointment was very minimal and faded quickly! I will just have to watch for one from the earlier run to go along with it!

To those unhappy with the dye on their rotten bananas...I wonder if using the Guardsman Furniture pens will darken the brown spots. This knife may be too glossy to take the ink, but I remember the Guardsman pens were suggested by someone around here and used by many, myself included, to darken the chestnut NF Barlows from 2 runs ago.

RIT Dye has been used to darken bone slabs of other knives to varying degrees of success.
Most have turned out fairly nice too.

Gorgeous.

I'm waiting on a pair of 48s to come in. Picked up the single and double blade pieces in Bloodwood. Didn't realize there were still Blackwood ones, or I'd have gotten the trapper in that, but any wood handle is fine by me.

I could almost say exactly the same thing. But I've got enough ebony and no other wood, so I'm good with coveting rather than owning. The bloodwood on my Weasel and improved trapper are slightly different, but each have perfectly matched wood on each side. Beautiful wood. I love the slight chatoyancy. I think I prefer the simple Tidioute style over the embellished Northfield as well.

I've been carrying my Improved Trapper in stag for about two weeks and am very happy with it. The stag is deeply grooved and makes a nice fat handle. With the nice grip and the delicate blades, it almost has a bird & trout type of feel to it.
Super-sharp right out of the tube. I stropped it a bit and it was ready to go.

That OD is a nice pair of pants for that knife.
Good choice.
