New Run of No. 15s (Beer Scout and Otherwise)

I have had plenty of GEC knives but sold many off earlier this year but my question is for those that have both the beer scout and the crown lifter of this new run, which do you prefer thanks!
 
I have both.

I've only had the lifter (gabon ebony) for about 6 weeks and the BS (golden ale jig) for 2 weeks. They're way too new for me to be able to choose one over the other. The lifter probably wins out just because I've had it about a month longer than the scout.
 
I have a bone Crown Lifter & a micarta Beer Scout. Aside from the covers, the differences are subtle. The BS has a bail, long pull on the blade & brass liners. I tend to carry the Beer Scout more only because the micarta covers seem to suit me better for an everyday user.

Two new ones arrived yesterday. These will most likely be Christmas gifts for relatives. Although I'm starting to bond with the Beer Barrel Oak version so it might not be leaving.

That Beer Barrel does look nice . Mine should be here next week to keep my maroon macarta company lol.

Can't wait to get my beer barrel. Had mine on reserve and still waiting for the shipping notice. It's hard trying to be patient.

Me too, ordered one at CK as soon as they were listed for regular sale. I like the pattern, but not sure if I am sold on the Beer Barrel Oak though for a knife scale. Might be too light colored for my taste now that I see actual pics.
 
GEC recently posted pics of a charred barrel oak BS. I didn't know they were making that. Anyone know who carries that?

Don't know but I'd love to have one to put next to my bb BC that's on the way . But my maroon macarta is not going to be happy 😆

If you are new here...these are not a SFO /special forum offering, but are limited to a couple hundred. Contact your friendly distributor. the gec site has a list. Good luck...I'm on a "maybe" on the CK site.

What do you all think of this area around one of the pins on this Beer Barrel Oak scout? What is it? It is totally smooth to the touch. Is this a weird spot in the grain of wood or is this where they put some wood putty? I can't make it out.

It doesn't look too bad from a distance, but it is noticeable.

I wondered what that was too. It looks like someone whittled away some wood around the pin. Does it feel tapered down?
