New Shop, Very Excited, but, Man, I'm Dumb

I'm guess in it's 1/2 or 1/4 as it would be a special character.

" Use 2" or greater diameter pipe as the first leg of your system where the air compressor connects
to the air piping system, and no less than " for the runs and drops"

This drawing is the one referred to in the text

3/4" minimum, 1 1/4" recommended for runs and drops.

Man, that was interesting. We did put on moisture traps. Might go ahead and put a slope in the pipe. Thats a good idea. Neato writeup.

I think you will like it and it's much easier to do now at the beginning of a setup.

If you rotate the pipe a bit, you could also get the nipples to the fitting come off the top too.

& a drop on the end of the slope with a ball valve would let you drain the line.

I so wish I had those features.

My air sprays water every time I disconnect a hose.
It needs some attention.

Everything I did was wrong it seems. Yikes!

I wouldn't worry to much about it, if you're not planning to spray automotive paints no worries.. It takes a long time for moisture to travel 'up' a pipe.. and in my mind the slop should be upward instead of down...

the biggest key is to keep the pipes cool, and I would install one 'T' before your first valve run it up like the drawing..

have your drain valve down by the compressor.

I'm going to add some drains, and turn the ports upwards. That will hopefully help some. Like I said, we're not using the compressor constantly. Just occasionally blowing dust.

Thanks for the insurance information - I was a little worried, will talk with my agent about the grinder and the kiln.

I'm signing my insurance papers today. The other quotes were higher. Thanks guys. Pics this weekend. Move done by next weekend. Off to meet an electrician. You guys rock.

Aside, I fell for one of the knives out of this weeks batch, but I'm selling it because I want to make myself one in the new spot. How often do you guys keep your work?

This guy has a 3" blade and 3.5" handle.

Andy, in the 7 years I've been making knives, I've kept one finished knife that was of quality to be sold. I kept it because the blank was a gift from another forum member who I helped out with some heat treating, and it was the first blade I ever did a clay quench with to form a hamon. I really want to just make some knives for myself to keep when I get back in the shop.

You're still getting production done wile moving?

I assumed not, good for you.

No choice, we'll need the funds. I moved what I could in small batches this week while we did the batch, and in the evenings built the benches. I will try to take next week off to complete the move.

New pics today. Dan and I finished the 16' of benches on the bay door wall. This will house the KMG's (3 vert and one horiz) a 2x42 and a chop saw. Still have to put the curly Maple facing on the raw plywood edges.

Same benches from the stair end of the space.

Yesterday I was lucky to have a couple of guys from the GA Guild show up to help out. They put pegboard and a shelf over 2/3 of the 24' bench. Got some pics to show now. I've never had a shop with pegboard. Its pretty neato.

I'd have kept that one too, Andy. It's beautiful.

Wish I could drop by to help out/get in the way setting up. It's inspiring.

Man, I'd love to have you come by the shop for a visit SS. Can you come early to Blade Show? Its already approaching Blade Show season!

The move is going so maddeningly slow! Our drought has failed us, and we've had grey soaking rain days for almost a week. Hurray for Alabama and Florida, who have the rights to all of Georgia's rainfall, but bully on Fiddleback Forge, who needs his yard to dry out. I can't get a truck down to my basement shop, and carrying the machinery out would be ludicrous as well as dangerous. But the buildout is basically done now so I can focus on electricity. I am putting off the move for another week. I'll need handle the wiring, and pull a batch this week, as well, so most things need to stay put. The new plan is to move next week, God willing.

Andy, it's looking awesome so far. Congrats again on the progress. It makes me happy to see good people doing well these days.
