New Shop, Very Excited, but, Man, I'm Dumb

I wish I could make it to stuff like BLADE. I may go to the OCKA show this spring. Do you go to the A.G. Russell show in the fall?

I have only done one show each year since I started. Maybe once the move is in place, and things are back up to full speed I'll choose additional shows. Generally, they'll be in cities I haven't visited yet, and places I can enjoy with my wife.

Congratulations Andy! :)

Hope the move is smooth and things are prosperous in the new shop!!! Having just moved mine, I know what a pita it is.

Sounds like the landlord is willing to work with/accomodate you, which is awesome. When I looked at renting a shop several years ago, they either cringed when I mentioned what I do, or wouldn't allow ANY modification to the space. I can't blame them, but in my shops I am the type to screw something to the wall here, and weld something up over there, etc.... so that would have been really tough.

Love those super long workbenches! :)

I see air thoroughly piped all over your cool shop. What are you doing to suck it (dust) out of your work space?

I'm wondering too, pics when you have them.

Well, I am honestly not very prepared in this regard. I collect dust in my current shop with a shop vac. The elect is costing $600. I'll have to earn the $ for this as I go, but it will really not be hard to configure. I plan to set up a system in the center of the room, and a center on the left, seperately. There is plenty of room for it, and the landlord doesn't mind me punching through the wall to exhaust.

Ha! The electrician was at the space at 7:00 am today! Woot! All wired. I'm loving it!

I hung around a while and put an edge band on the shelf. You can see Hannah in the background 'studying'.

There are 4 of these spaced across the 24' bench. And 4 of them under the 16' bench.

Looks like this weekend is going to be sunny. Next week is tentatively scheduled for the move!

Woot.

Looking really good, Andy! Where in ATL are you? Would love to stop by for a visit at some time to see how things should be done...

I'm in Cumming. My number is on the website. Come on by.

The edge banding is on the benches, and they'll get sanded and the first coat of poly today.

Pics of the curly Maple on the bench edges. These pics are after the first coat of poly.

We start moving the tools in on Sunday! Now I'm excited.

Looking good Andy. I sure wish I had more room. I find myself tripping over "myself".

Always wanted to get a larger workspace, but every time I turn around, some strange "Money-Magnet" strikes again, and alas, I'm broke again.

Someday........... Just maybe.......... Someday.

Congrats my man,

Robert

Come down for a visit at least though Robert! We can make something together while you're here.

OK. We've got everything but the fine print moved now. Even have some things on the pegboard. BTW, if you ever get pegboard hooks, get Triton hooks. They are STOUT, and secure in with a screw. They are very impressive next to the Home Depot ones. The first few pics are of the front offices. They are basically a mess in these pics. I spent some time unpacking them and straightning today but didn't get new pics...

This is the glueup and marking table.

A little desk, a bookshelf to organize the leather stuff.

This is the leather bench, and the photo bench.

A blurry pic of the bank of school lockers I got off ebay for fifty bucks. Everybody will have a lockable space.

On and into the back. In the foreground is my old woodworking bench. I love this tool. I spend a lot of time here as it has a nice vise on each end and that is where I prefer to sand handles. In the background is the 24' bench cluttered with crap that doesn't have a spot yet.

Looking under the stairs you can see my big planer in the back and the compressor inside of that. There is also Dylan's scroll saw in there. My wife got me the grey drawyers. They're handy. The pinstock and hardware kinda stuff is there as well.

The drillpresses are lined up beside the base of the stairs. Two set slow for metal, one fast one for wood, one (small) dedicated to a chamfer bit.

Starting to monkey with the pegboard. This stuff is fun, but you can waste a whole day messing with it. Again, I'm super impressed with the Titan pegs.

We haven't done much over here yet. Everything is moved though.

The bandsaws will be in the middle of the floor. I had the electrician drop power from the ceiling.

My baby. The first big machine I ever bought. Still a cornerstone. My wife asked me when I bought it if I'd use it. I use it a lot! Time to set it up and tune it.

This pic is down the long bench. There is a couple of ovens, my quench tank is hidden but there, kydex station, granite for flatening, and my heavy duty cutter for liner material. (My Dad got me that at Goodwill for $20. It'll cut .060 g-10 no problem.

The new news is that I did buy a dust collector. Its getting delivered tomorrow. Thanks for looking.

This is a detail shot of the black pipe compressor line. The bench for the KMG's will go on this wall.

Don't you want the airline drops hanging vertically so the hoses don't kink under their own weight?

Seriously cool thread. Congrats!

Well, I have to take those down, but no, you want them going up, so the water doesn't pool in them. Along with sloping mainlines and drains.

Wow, the shop is really looking sharp. One thing I continue to appreciate as I get older is having the right tool for the right job makes an impact on production. It's neat to get a glimpse into what a heavy shop you run. Things are looking great!
