New Spyderco Bushcraft (G10) is out :)

ah man taiwan??? Come on it looks perfect, just produce it in boulder ...I will pay full price for some good ole usa products.I just purchased a fire steel and some emergency blankets that were all american made. sure they were three times the price of the foreign made variety but worth every penny in my book.

Why do people keep on saying that Spyderco knives are made in Boulder?
If you love the U.S. knives so much, look at the blade! It's Golden, Colorado

:thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:

There are too many good makers on these boards :thumbup::thumbup:
to be supporting a company that is so greedy they have to go off shore to get thier knives made!!!

:thumbup:Unfortunate as it is... I must agree 100%.. As many that need jobs here they sub it out to taiwan, I understand about quality control and all that is probably still there, but its a knife man.. can't we make a knife here without slave labor and it still be affordable and you're able to make profit..

come on guys..

Slave labor? I think you have the wrong idea about Taiwan. It's one of the Four Asian Tigers. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Asian_Tigers

All four Asian Tigers have a highly educated and skilled workforce and have specialized in areas where they had a competitive advantage. For example, Hong Kong and Singapore became world leading international financial centres, while South Korea and Taiwan became world leaders in information technology. Their economic success stories became known as the Miracle on the Han River and the Taiwan Miracle and have served as role models for many developing countries,[1][2][3] especially the Tiger Cub Economies.

It's worth reading this entry, also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Taiwan

From there,

Agriculture contributes 3% to GDP, down from 35% in 1952, and the service sector makes up 73% of the economy. Traditional labor-intensive industries are steadily being moved off-shore and replaced with more capital- and technology-intensive industries, as well as creative industries.

and later

Taiwan now faces many of the same economic issues as other developed economies. With the prospect of continued relocation of labor-intensive industries to economies with cheaper work forces, such as in China and Vietnam, Taiwan's future development will have to rely on further transformation to a high technology and service-oriented economy.

I like the fact that its made in Taiwan, those Taiwan spydercos are amazing, Dare I say it, more well made then the American ones....

Many people don't realize Taiwan is as independent of China as Switzerland is of Germany. Same language does not make same nation.

Many people also don't realize that twenty years ago, there were no U.S. made Spyderco knives. They didn't have a production facility here. Ten years ago, there were only a handful of models made here. Sal has been expanding his U.S. production as fast as he can afford, but the last I heard it was still only about 50 people. He has always worked with the best makers he can find in countries all around the world. To bring all that production here would require millions of dollars in equipment and hundreds of skilled workers. Any of you haters want to step up and donate a few million bucks?

Savagsicslayer, Sal mentioned removing the first lightening hole in the tang due to a couple of the first run breaking. I hope it didn't screw up the balance too badly.

Alberta Ed, I take it you are not familiar with the forward lanyard. Check out Bladesports cutting competition some time.

And yes, the leather sheath is ambidextrous, the knife fits either way quite nicely.

tonym and RevDevil, I love Spyderco too but you can't honestly think the price is a smoking good deal. You can get American hand-made scandi knives of similar dimensions with the same 01 steel and micarta handles for $150 or hand-finished Finland made ones for $100.

The only one I know of that comes close is BHK, but at the same dimensions I think it will be the same if not more money.

Please link me with some custom makers that will make it with sheath and as good as fit and finish for $179

I am not being a wiseass, I would really like to know. Scandi's are my thing:thumbup:

d'oh. i just ordered a bhk bushcrafter yesterday or else i might've bought that one instead. glad to see that's back. hopefully i'll be able to get one someday. i'm only now getting into scandi knives after someone gave me a mora...damn you, rescueriley! haha.

I suppose all of you are driving US cars, using computers made in the US and wearing clOthes that were made here too. Come on, get off your high horses.

It's indeed not cheap, not even at street price, but I can tell from my original maple-handled Bushcraft that it's a totally dependable tool, meticulously finished as well.
Regarding quality/price, I think it's difficult to beat Brisa's Enzo Trapper (shown here with a micarta handle because it it at least today not for sale with a G10 handle). I have both, and while the Bushcraft's handle is still a bit better, and its sheath is better as well, the Brisa offers in essence the same kind of performance.

Many people don't realize Taiwan is as independent of China as Switzerland is of Germany. Same language does not make same nation.

Unfortunately, many people do not care, even when this is pointed out. :( Language is basically all that Taiwan and China have in common today.

Seems like you can't hit a Spyderco thread with a rock without seeing screams of why the hole and slave labor. I really wish people would educate themselves before they peck on the foreign made keyboard made in a Country that really promotes child labor.

I just got a BHK Bushcrafter and love it and my Spyderco Bushcraft shipped yesterday and I can't wait to get it.

Quality is quality no matter where it's made.

Oh Sh*t the * just fell off of my keyboard.:D

I haven't laughed at a thread so much in years - thanks :D

Glad the Bushcrafter made it to its feet again :)
