New Spyderco Bushcraft (G10) is out :)

'Bushcraft' style knives really aren't my thing, but I'll bet the Spyderco one is as good as you'll find for the money. There are economies of scale in production knives that just can't be realized by a small maker unless they effectively end up valuing their hourly rate at not much more than 'slave labor'.

:thumbup:Unfortunate as it is... I must agree 100%.. As many that need jobs here they sub it out to taiwan, I understand about quality control and all that is probably still there, but its a knife man.. can't we make a knife here without slave labor and it still be affordable and you're able to make profit..

come on guys..

I'd own a sage 1 & 2 if they were USA made.

Yeah... I like Ferraris. But, I'm going to pass on the Ferrari.. since it's not made in Golden, Colorado. ;)

Gosh... a lot of nationalistic posturing. I'm a red-blooded horn-tootin' patriot who served my country (Navy) in Persian Gulf 1. But, I won't deprive myself of a fine product I like and want just because it wasn't made here in the U.S.A.

And, as has been alluded to already.. It's nearly impossible to live in the U.S. and not buy or use products made abroad. Most of the computers we're using were made at least in part overseas. Heck, even "American" cars are made, at least in part, outside our borders. Are your clothes made here? Your sneakers? The food you eat? Are you THAT certain you can limit yourself to products that are 100% American in origin? I'd say it's impossible, not to mention an exercise in futility, to eschew the global economy.

I own a Sage 1 and Sage 2. Sage 3 is on pre-order.

I'd own a sage 1 & 2 if they were USA made.

I own both because they are excellent knives, designed by Spyderco. I also own a PPT, Gayle Bradley, and 2 original BushcraftUK knives for the same reason.
BTW: Where do you think your computer, shoes, TV, clothing, and car parts are made?

It does look pretty good. Taiwan is actually a pretty decent country for manufacturers...sure it's not made in the USA, but Spyderco is in the business to make a profit and if they can't make them stateside for a reasonable cost (blame our taxes and laws, not the manufacturer) as it would be too cost prohibitive to make, they wouldn't be able to offer it. I'm torn on the whole "made in the USA" issue...our taxes and regulations continue to push product manufacturing overseas; I don't blame Spyderco for that decision, I blame the law makers. If I do find a good deal, I wouldn't mind giving one a try...kudos to Spyderco for bringing it back with G10 handles after the wood-handle issue. There are a bunch of excellent makers on Bladeforums and that would be my first choice and recommendation, but the Spyderco Bushcraft will be more widely available...it may even be a "gate-way" knife to enter the custom world for some:thumbup:

ROCK6
I totally agree with you about Taiwan beeing a decent country Rock6.I've always admired that fact that they stood up to the PRC & are a free democratic country.
I,m just pissed about American companys having to have thier goods made in foreign countrys to make a profit.
I saw that the knife was made in Taiwan & it pushed my button.
I've never liked spyderco knives anyhow so I used them for my rant.
Sorry spydie lovers.

Don't troll the threads, you won't last long. Going down this road again, you should already know nothing good can come of it. The steel is American made. If you don't want it, don't buy it.
By the way...What Spydercos are made in Boulder, CO? All the ones I have are from Golden, CO.
Trolling?Na,just replying to a thread man.
Sorry devil, not beeing a spydie fan I obviously didn't know what city they're from.
I should have just said Colorado,at least I got that right huh.

well my car as at least built here. as well as some of my clothes and shoes. Can't really avoid having TV/computers from china and japan.

but the point is with knives, many good knives ARE made here. its easier to find a knife made in the USA than anything you listed...

I'd just like to send the least amount of money overseas as possible. sorry if I offended you.

The lack of understanding and perspective are bothersome. You think Spyderco is an Asian owned company? The money goes to Golden, CO. The materials used are also American. Sal has stated that the profit of those knives a comes back to the states to modernize the Golden, CO facility. SO your "boycott" is infact hurting the American jobs you seem to value so much. Just sayin.

Thanx much for the kind words and support.

Mykel,

I think you would do better to learn more about what we're doing.

As far as the maker, for quality, fit and finish, I will stack them up against anything made in the US or anywhere else. :p

A US company, a British design, a Taiwan manufacturer. A good design, well made at a fair price just for you.

sal

Quoted for extreme hilarity.:D

I left that alone all day but you just had to go there. :D BTW, you cleaned it up much better than I would have.

Thanx much for the kind words and support.

 and a great knife at a fair price it is.

Following your reasoning, you mean that I as a proud European shouldn't buy any American knife and stick to European brands?
I hope this example shows how limiting for everyone such tunnel vision is in the end.
For example, it's your loss if you don't consider the Sage 1 & 2.
Extending the topic: just try a German car...

Sorry Sal,I'd rather not help pay a taiwanes's wages.
There are too many Americans out of work over here because of outsourcing.
I know you guys make some fine knives,I've been tempted by the military & leafstorm,
I even traded for a paramil, but soon traded it off because of the funky lock.
I just never did like the looks of the hole in the blade since I first saw one of your knives many moons ago. That's just me though.
I do admit to owning some KAIs,but I got most in trades & they were at least made here.
Call me a hypocrite for that if you will, but I have all the folders I need & won't be buying anymore anyho.
I'm out of my folder phase & am concentrating on fixed blades.
When I saw the pic in the op I thought right on,looks good, but then read the specs. & it all went down hill from there.........
Sorry I was the first to voice my displeasure in your choice of manufacturing sites, but as you see I'm not the only one.
You've obviously got plenty of supporters here so please don't let a few of us dessenters get you down & have a merry Christmas. :)

Please answer my PM.
If the mods didn't like my post they could have deleted it,right?

mykel m, we don't delete posts here unless they are a serious violation of the rules. What we like has nothing to do with it.

But if I read you right, you don't like Spyderco. What are you doing stirring up dissension in a thread about a Spyderco? Go someplace you can make a positive contribution instead of what is looking a lot like trolling.

No problem Mykel,

There are products I won't buy for various reasons. While I don't agree with you on your "black and white" choice for knives, I respect your right to your opinion.

sal

Huh, alot of heated discussion going on.
And none of it's actually about the knife.
Weird.

Been there done that. I'd rather spend half the money on maintenance and have a better car.
