Can we please stop quoting pictures of the same knife over and over on the same page.

*50% of the "what traditional knife are you totin' today" thread is people re quoting one picture of a "charlow" saying "nice knife" "i like your knife" "cool set up"

"Bumping" pictures to the next page is OK - but generally this is reserved for good photography, not just to say, "Cool stuff bro"

You can quote the individual without having to repost the same picture 5 + times on the same page.

If you want to comment to someone, just delete the IMG code between the
's and have at it.

Most other forums I frequent, this is a rule.

It helps to cut the clutter, and it generally makes more sense.

Well what say you traditional knife forumites

yea or nay ?

*minor exaggeration

I say it would be hard to re-enforce, but it is a very simple to do that I do myself. I think a few announcements and constant reminders in threads themselves will eventually fix this issue.

Kind of new here, but I've been surprised that this is the norm, if only due to bandwith considerations.

Quotes without the same pics over and over makes a lot of sense to me.

I believe it used to be a rule and is actually stated by either Gus or Elliot somewhere in the "What Trad are you carrying?" thread.

Over time, it stop being enforced, and now that thread has become little more than the same 20 people quoting and complementing each other over and over...

There is a term for this, but I won't use it here... ;)

I agree, I have noticed this site lagging now and then. I will try to be mindful of this in the future.

If people stopped re-posting the same pics over and over and stopped saying "NICE CHARLOW!" every five seconds, the Traditional forum would be a very quiet place.

I agree with this. I'm all for saying "Nice Charlow!"...comment away, discuss away, but there is no need to keep reposting the same picture over and over, it's especially bad when someone posts three or four pictures and then gets quoted multiple times and it's all within one page. If you want to quote someone just delete the pictures from the quote so they don't get repeated.

HA! This made me laugh. I'll try to be more mindful.

Its never really bothered me -but great idea for the site in general:p

This is from the guidelines. As you can see it is a request. Everyone who posts here should have read this at one time or another. It would be nice if it became the norm.

Copying & Pasting

I've been asked by some of our members recently to request the following:

Please edit your posts and replies so that you don't have to unnecessarily copy images and quotes over and over in a thread ad infinitum. You can excise the images and portion of a previous post that are not relevant in making your point which will enhance the reading experience for your fellow forumites. Thanks for taking the time and care to do so.

I re-read your post and I agree mostly with what you are saying, however, I am in dissent with it becoming a rule and here is why:

I think you posting this or just kindly asking, without embarrassing any one person, will have it's effects and you will see less of what bothers you. :)

I would expect while many are in agreement with the excessive use of quoting pictures, there are probably many thinking arrggh ! :o :D

I sometimes wish that a few of the members would at least put a little more thought into their replies and think about dropping the pictures from a multi photo post or just picking one of their favorite pictures from that post and carry it forward. If a person always just hits reply and quotes the entire post, then I would say a friendly reminder from a moderator would be OK.

BUT - it is the comments and the occasional picture quote that makes that thread a very popular one and I wish for nothing to change that.

I think it would be a very boring place around here without all of the thoughtful comments and occasional image quoting.

ALSO - sometimes if you are posting a picture and the page turns on the next post, your post will not be seen nearly as much. I often will quote a really nice knife or picture that was on the previous page just to get that members picture a fair look, if you will.

We all have plenty of rules to follow every day at work or when driving or imposed by our government and this is a place where many of us come to relax.

Be careful what you wish for!

Many members here pay to be a member, spend a great deal of cash on their knives, and spend a great deal of time on their pictures, and are generous with their knowledge and skills, many offering up advice instantly, when asked.

I look at it as a privilege to get to see those collections and the pictures they have obviously went to great lengths to capture of their cherished knife.

I would expect any across the board rule change to have unexpected and undesirable side effects - simply - if people cannot relax and enjoy it - or constantly feel pressure from others, that they may not be posting as some others wish them to, they will just quit posting.

I think Frank and Gary do a wonderful job here and yes - there must be rules - but - there are enough, in my opinion - and they do a fine job of balancing and the rules are enforced fairly.

Respectfully,
Primble

It doesn't bother me a bit. I am not a tech guy but do linked photos actually bog down a forums server?

I'd like to know this as well Kevin because Jon Slider told me once it doesn't? That's why an image hosting website is used?

@ Primble I totally agree with you as well and your reponse again was well written;)...I love to see pictures!!! Heck, you and Kevin offer some of the best:thumbup:

I'm at times guilty of reposting a picture that has already been reposted several times:o

For me personally I just need to think a little bit before I post, but dog gone it...I'm so exciteable:D
