I re-read your post and I agree mostly with what you are saying, however,
I am in dissent with it becoming a rule and here is why:
I think you posting this or just kindly asking, without embarrassing any one person, will have it's effects and you will see less of what bothers you.
I would expect while many are in agreement with the excessive use of quoting pictures, there are probably many thinking arrggh !
I sometimes wish that a few of the members would at least put a little more thought into their replies and think about dropping the pictures from a multi photo post or just picking one of their favorite pictures from that post and carry it forward. If a person
always just hits reply and quotes the entire post, then I would say a friendly reminder from a moderator would be OK.
BUT - it is the comments and the occasional picture quote that makes that thread a very popular one and I wish for nothing to change that.
I think it would be a very boring place around here without all of the thoughtful comments and occasional image quoting.
ALSO - sometimes if you are posting a picture and the page turns on the next post, your post will not be seen nearly as much. I often will quote a really nice knife or picture that was on the previous page just to get that members picture a fair look, if you will.
We all have plenty of rules to follow every day at work or when driving or imposed by our government and this is a place where many of us come to relax.
Be careful what you wish for!
Many members here pay to be a member, spend a great deal of cash on their knives, and spend a great deal of time on their pictures, and are generous with their knowledge and skills, many offering up advice instantly, when asked.
I look at it as a privilege to get to see those collections and the pictures they have obviously went to great lengths to capture of their cherished knife.
I would expect any across the board rule change to have unexpected and undesirable side effects - simply - if people cannot relax and enjoy it - or constantly feel pressure from others, that they may not be posting as some others wish them to, they will just quit posting.
I think Frank and Gary do a wonderful job here and yes - there must be rules - but - there are enough, in my opinion - and they do a fine job of balancing and the rules are enforced fairly.
Respectfully,
Primble
