New Web Specials Buck Website

revnewk revnewk Good question as the nylon sheath does not seem impressive, nor appropriate given these Gen 5s are not low end blades.

I will say the leather Gen 5 slip sheaths are quite different from the 113 leather sheath and I would not think it would be a good fit. I will be trying the Gen 5 in a 113 sheath tonight after work.

Thank you, Matthew. I look forward to hearing how it goes for you tonight.

A year or so ago I purchased a "walnut" 110.
Wanting one to match the old walnut 55, I was disappointed when I received it. It was a laminate.
The shipping invoice from Buck referred to it as "Heritage Walnut".

I'm betting that 111 is a laminate as well.

The laminate is likely more durable tho.

A search of Heritage Walnut will reveal many discussions about it.
👍

Is that real Walnut on the 111 Heritage Walnut or a laminated product. Either is fine but I'd like to know.

I wondered the same thing and Google searched “Buck knives heritage walnut” and all the results were previous Buck knives that included “Dymalux” in their descriptions.

The only walnut Buck knife I have is a custom shop 112, no mention of “heritage walnut” when I ordered it so I thought I was getting full walnut slabs, but they’re laminate. Now this knife comes out and I thought the “heritage walnut” would be full walnut scales but find they’re laminate as well. Darn!

I mean is it really that much more expensive to use real walnut? Should never be able to advertise Walnut and it be not walnut?
Some of the laminated wood handles are the actual species just laminated. Some are birch died a color. The laminated handles are in many ways superior to regular wood.

Big thing IMHO Buck needs to do a better job of telling the consumer exactly what they are getting.

I received my order yesterday, and yes, I owe you all pics! I did order a 110 slim in burlap micarta and S45VN in addition to the 111 and Gen 5.

I’m bummed though because when I opened it up, the blade is stamped S35VN, not 45. Now on the Buck website I see that they quietly replaced the S45VN version with an S35VN in burlap micarta that they are selling for $119.99.

I definitely paid the $149.99 that they were charging for the S45VN variant however.

I suggest that you reach out to Buck and ask for a price adjustment or to return the knife since it is not in the originally advertised S45VN steel. I have one enroute and will be contacting Buck to discuss the discrepancy.

Received the Gen 5 yesterday. It's OK but tumble finished blades are not my favorites. In contrast to the polished nickel silver guard the blade looks dull and "unfinished". To my thinking, tumble finished blades are an economy feature for lower end knives.
