New Web Specials??

Well I hope it's gone through, I had a order number on the screen but no e-mail. E-mailed Buck to see. I hope I get one, if not this would be the second time I tried to give Buck money and they not want it.

I thought the e-mail ad lead I got from Buck was in error, as I have several Bucks in CPM154, including the Bass Pro 110, but none in 154CM. They did offer the CPM154 as a Custom Shop blade choice at one time, as well. I guess I'm judging apples against oranges, but my several examples of 154CM from Benchmade are not in the same ball park, wear & hardness-wise, as their D2 & S30V, much less the Buck CPM154. Of course, it re-edges easily enough - reminds me, pardon the heresy, of 420HC! So, number-game bragging rights aside, I won't miss it!

Who am I kidding? Sour grapes! Heck, I have a C.S. 110 'on the way' - my funds are depleted - getting a #143 - then a second - from WallyWorld was traumatic - and, inc s/t, I got change back from a $20 each time. Congrats to those who get one. I wonder when they will appear on evil-bay - and at what elevated price?

Stainz

PS I am right re the CPM154 being a finer grained/harder blade steel than 154CM, or am I having another senior moment?

Happy Days! I got a e-mail from Buck, it shipped yesterday.

Hopefully enough people here ordered them so they don't end up in the clutches of Evil Bay sellers at unreasonable prices with elevated shipping prices. :)

No, they really are different steels. Nothing wrong with 154CM, but CPM-154 is a "better" steel. But for those of us who are eligible for senior moments, anything after ATS-34 is a real plus, IMHO! :D

At that price one person may have bought in volume with intended resale.

I have a pretty good idea that they will show up, sooner rather than later and I have a real good idea who the eBay seller will be. I've noticed it before and I'm sure it will happen again. The seller is from Post Falls, so he/she probably doesn't even have to have them shipped. Just walk in a pick them up from Buck.

This might make a good contest! Pick the first seller to hit eBay with them.

E-mail or PM me for my guess.;)

Here's what may be of interest to the Duck and Phil...it seems a lot of people purchased other knives on special when they rushed in to get the 110. That was probably the plan. :)

"Loss Leader" marketing strategy 101.
The plan worked on me as usual.

I think I have the answer to my original question. The head scratcher and why these guys got a $30 close-out price is solved. See picture above.

Another photo of the blade verbage in question, BOS flame & 154CM, for your amusement Flat. The proud logo sinks as you look from left to right.

Did the stamp being to low cause the 190 blades to be rejected and banished to warehouse? A reasonable guess. It was a nice little Christmas price for all of us who picked up several. These knives compare to a CS110 in S30V and Dymondwood at 3 times the price.

ETA of my 0112BO2-B PaperStone Ranger build out with a thumb stud is Monday. I'm really looking forward.

Has there been another paperstone build out or is this the first?

I'm aware of the BCCI paperstone barehead drop point 110 club knife.

In terms of the (expected) performance of the steel, I'm not sure that's true. CPM-154 would likely be a more or less straight-across comparison, but 154CM would not, I think. Helluvadeal regardless. :)
