New ZT/Hinderer Flipper is Coming!!!0560/0561

hi all, just a quick question about my 0561. again, i couldn't be happier with this knife, but one thing: this is my first framelock and sometimes the lock is REALLY hard to disengage, and i have to use both hands or i can't get it to unlock. does this sort of thing work itself out with use? i read somewhere about putting pencil lead on the blade tang where it engages, but that seems like a temporary fix. what would cause this in the first place on some knives and not others? just the angle of the blade tang and the lockbar? (btw, i get about a 40% lockup if i open it gently and 50%+ if i flip it) thanks!

Thats odd as I'm sure they carbidized all the lockbar faces. My is as smooth as glass to dis-engage.Could it be that yours maybe somehow got passed over at that stage??

If thats the case , then they passed over both of mine too :(
One Iam using and its smoothing out preety well so I think it,ll smooth out with time (use) Ive flipped the hell out of it to get it to smooth out and its working actually fine now. Little sticky but not much.
These knives are awsum IMHO

i can't imagine that they would have forgotten something like that, so it sounds like some are just smoother than others. well if all it takes is to flip the hell out of it to make it smoother, i'm more than willing to do that :)

I have a Golden Ticket - ZT0560 SN 365 - means EDC 365 days a year - no exception.

Here she is right next to my heart. Now back to my pocket. ZT, Kershaw, and Thomas are awesome.

I think most emerson's are like that, mine was, the first week I had it I had to use both hands to disengage the lock, but its smoothed out considerably since then, I think its just the nature of Ti.

When I first had my ZT551, it was very difficult to deploy and disengage the frame lock. After breaking in though, its smoother than melted butter.

Carry it for a month, flip it constantly, and see how it is after breaking in.

Yes, that and the finish I suppose. Though if the lockbar is carbidized it shouldn't be as bad. The only folder I know for sure gets the lockbar hardened would be my Large Sebenza 21. Other than that I can't really say. Though my XM-18 was buttery smooth out of the box, every other titanium lockbar I've encountered has been sticky, including some mid-techs like the Galyean Pro Turbulence and full on customs like my Yuna Mini Hard 2, my R.J. Martin Overkill, and my John W. Smith SD-3.

All of them more or less broke in within a week, and maybe a few days on top. The 0551 took the better part of a month, though the considerably thicker lockbar makes that understandable.

Great, thanks a lot for the advice. I sure as h*ll didn't want to have to send it in - I'm enjoying playing with it too much otherwise!

Dab the tang where the contact point is with a Sharpie and it will smooth out until the lockbar conforms . . .

My 560 & 561 is going to force my 300 & 301 into retirement.

I can't wait to get another. Based on the serials I've seen I lucked out on my 561. Scored a single digit 561!

:D

I'm new to folders and despite having done a google search I have no idea what "carbidized" means. I apologize for what I presume is an elementary question but what the heck does this mean and what's the benefit here?

Thanks,
