New ZT0550 Thread !!!

I doubt it. The guys that want a XM18 are still going to want one. Plus there are lots of people that buy knives and don't even visit this website and most likely don't know about the 0551. And last this is not a XM18 clone or copy. It is fairly different in design and size. It is much more similar to another model Rick makes although I don't remember the name.[/QUOTE

That's funny, I thought the ZT was hugely popular BECAUSE it is a poor mans version of the XM-18. Wasn't that Ricks reasoning for bringing it out in the first place?

I know if I didn't already have an XM, I would be buying one of these knives simply because it's the closest design to it, the next best thing.

What do I know though? I kind of want one of these ZT anyway, and a HEST folder. What a couple of stellar designs, for not too much money.

I agree this will put that poor man's XM in reach of many more folks and that's a beautiful thing. This ZT 0551/0550 should take a lot of heat off Rick for the XM-18's and I'm looking forward to this one. :)

"Poorman's version" is a misnomer, I believe.

I don't mind paying $400 for an XM-18 but I refuse to pony up $650+ to get another one. I don't mind what Rick charges. I mind what the aftermarket charges.

I didn't make it up. Look up one post higher than mine. I agree that the aftermarket is very high on the XM's, but man they're nice! :)

This hard use ZT 0551 will be too, whatever people decide to call it.

Cziv, my point is that there are many people charging a premium for Rick's knives. I would rather just order what I want from Rick, pay the cash to Rick, get the knife directly from Rick, and let his production line capacity increase with some more of the profits.

I simply don't want to fund some guy that is out there saying he is active duty, ordering three knives and flipping them for $1000 in profits. If I could still order directly, I would. And not mind the wait at all - even at $650 per knife.

This one looks more like the Camp knife he made awhile ago.

That's exactly what the 0550/0551 is designed after. The Camp Knife and not the XM-18. It was never supposed to compete with the XM-18.

Here is a Picture of My Camp Knife. Rick made only 3 of these custom Knives. The ZT is fashioned after The Camp Knife.

Yeah I knew that, I think that some people following this thread only associate the XM-18 when they heard about the collaboration between ZT and Rick. I was completely blown away when I started researching some of the stuff that Rick has produced, everything from fixed blades to bali's. The man has got some serious skills.

Nice shot of the Camp knife Pete.

Really sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't look through dozens of pages and for some reason the search function is not working on my browser at this work computer but-

When can I buy this and how much will it be from a dealer?

Thanks!

sorry to be the bearer of bad news bro, but these have been sold out for months.I would say your best bet is to watch the exchange religiously when they are released, and hope for the best.

No they are not, and have not been sold out.

For whatever reason, everyone in this thread seems to think all 1000 are sold. I was laughed at about two weeks ago when I had the same question. Its as if they dont realize that other shops are getting them in stock other than the one dealer on the forums.

Just call your favorite dealers and ask about pre-ordering. The first two places I called were getting 0551s in and had room on their lists. The first place said they only had a few people and the second place said they didnt have anyone on the list yet. So I ordered at both just in case.

Thanks for the info.. I will probably contact Action Concepts and see if they are getting any in stock :) How much are they after MSRP?

Thanks!

Thanks HKBM, that link was very useful. I hope I can get this before I go overseas in January :O

I'm not too worried about lists with Kershaw products, they seem to spread things around enough for everyone to get a chance.
With the Volt the pre-order lists were all full (from what I gathered), and those people seemed to get their knives early. A few weeks later the knives popped up at my favorite U.S. retailer, and stayed available for about a week.

That was a run of 250 knives, not 1000.

I'm sure everyone on the forum will get their fill.
