New ZT0550 Thread !!!

Keep the pics coming guys!!! This post is titled Photos - New ZT0550 Thread !!! Not Bitching and Moaning about the knife!!;)

My only real complaint thus far about the 0551 is that I haven't received it yet!:p

No, but seriously, I would only complain if I used the knife hard, and it closed on my fingers:eek:, chipped, or developed lots of blade play.

You guys who are posting photos have some serious photography skills.
Most of those are fantastic shots!!!

Thanks for sharing them.... :)

'bearcut'..... If you had one, or more; ordered .... now is your chance to get out of what appears to be an extremely frustrating situation for you.

I had somehow missed this knife. I will take all you have ordered.... seriously.

That you are not happy is apparent.... this is a way out for you. Don't let me down, I want one of these.
Email or PM me your payment info, let's get this done.

That applies to anyone else also.... I want at least one of these.

Waiting to hear from you 'bearcut'....

FYI..... I am not trying to be a smart @$$, I am serious. :)

Well, well, look what showed up.

First off, I’m calling 100% bullshit on your statement of “I had somehow missed this knife”.

A F**king blind man could NOT have “missed” ANY OF THE NUMEROUS THREADS on this knife that have received record amounts of views, posts AND been at the top of the boards since July! You are a habitual lurker and/or poster on these boards nearly every day. And, just so there’s no misinterpretation, I’m calling you a LIAR (go ahead and hit the “report post” like you LOVE to do.) And why is that important? Simply because you are FEIGNING INTEREST in this knife so that you can stir up shit and get on your moral high horse to “teach”. Pure and simple. What really gets me is how you flaunt that hypocritical signature which makes this offense so much more egregious. Since our last encounter I have found out that you have a well known track history/M.O. of “coming to the rescue” (in your mind) when threads are not going well or you feel some kind of self-righteous indignation has been committed. Apparently I had you pegged from our previous encounter and during my very short time spent here I have received numerous emails about you and none of them were flattering. Apparently you have quite a number of people here that flat out hate you (their words) but choose not to say so publicly. From our last exchange you should know that I have no such qualms and speak plainly what’s on my mind!

In fact, as far as I am concerned; a few have crossed the line in this thread....
....and it is pathetic.

But for a very few to say some of the things that were said in this thread..
........shows a complete & total lack of class.

And Thomas W has been treated like a dog by a select few..
....again, pitiful and showing no class by the ones that did.

Now we’re getting to your passive aggressive ways that you use to stir up shit while attempting to keep your hands clean so that you can appear to have a high ground and skirt moderation. There’s no doubt in my, or ANYONE ELSE'S mind that you were/are talking about ME. This is flat out BAITING and NAME CALLING on your part and anyone else to whom this applied would only feel compelled to respond. Once again, this is apparently your modus operandi and I’m your huckleberry.

Thomas had replied last night, after I had logged off I might add, and I was satisfied and appreciated his comments when I read them today. The thread was winding down and getting back on track but once again you feel the need to add comments like this...

I am still waiting to be contacted by at least one of you guys that are dissatisfied and not happy with your knife.

I want it!!!

Once again, you are not fooling anybody with that nonsense. You are just trying to make a point and EVERYONE KNOWS IT. Seeing as how you have effectively called out “Bearcut” in the posts above you have succeed in your BAITING. Being a “Christian” and taking such tactics is reprehensible. Nice “witness” you’ve got going there “teacher”. This is a perfect example of what PUTS PEOPLE OFF to Christianity and you are hereby rebuked!

To Thomas,
Thank you for taking the time to respond last night and I apologize if some of my comments seemed over the line to you. If anything I simply got caught up in the drama yesterday but I insist that none of my comments were ill founded (from my perspective) nor simply posted to be frivolous! I happen to love ALL of my KAI/Kershaw knives that I've picked up over the years. The KAI Shun kitchen knives are simply superb(!) and I've acquired the entire set/range because I think the world of them.

Now, about that liner. I must admit that I'm disappointed in your alloy selection of 410! Surprised a little too because a martensitic alloy has very low corrosion resistance and from my experience rust/corrosion will be an ongoing issue, for ME, in my "hard use" application. I guess I'll just have to stick to my Chris Reeve's knives that I've carried for "hard use" for nearly 20 years. I still like this knife and will keep it along with my many others I've acquired over the years!

Just took mine apart (fist time taking a knife apart :o) Had a hard time finding an allen wrench that would fit. Took a closer look and saw it was a Torx :foot:

As previously posted I only saw a little spot of rust. Wasn't much more than that on the other side of the liner so I put a light coat of Slip EWL on everthing, wiped it off and put it back together.

Now, instead of about 50% lock-up, I have about 30% (~40% when gripping) and a little smoother. Still having trouble opening with T-studs but that will take care of itself.
(edit to add: just opened it hard and it went back to about 50%--no biggie though)

Thought about keeping it a S-Queen so I was going to send it back but I really like it so it will either replace or be rotated with my ZT301. It would have taken about an hour of my time to repack along with a trip to the P.O. Instead I saved myself some time, gas, and Kershaw/ZT the labor/shipping. Plus, I learned a little about the workings of the knife (not rocket science, but I still learned something)

I understand anyone who would rather ship theirs back and get it taken care of professionally. I just hate, and I mean HATE, shipping stuff. And It would not be in my possession.
:D

Thanks for taking care of everyone Thomas.

Jesus, that knife looks awesome.

I guess maybe I'm a different breed of knife people than you folks, these are tools, not Ming vases. Get some sand paper and get on your way to putting it in the safe to fondle it on the weekends.

Awesome product, Thomas!

No problem on the response, and no lasting harm on your replies to me. Appreciate the support with your past purchases as well.

I think your CRK is a great tool that I know will serve you well, and I'm sorry about your disappointment with the material we've opted to use as a liner on the 0551. Hopefully there will be another Kai product option for you in the near future. :)

MOAR pics!

I sent mine back today to have the liner worked on. It was hard to do as this is gonna make a nice user as soon as I get it back. Very much like the XM-18 I sold because I couldn't bring myself to use a knife I paid over $600 for. The 0550 sales will be epic.

Congrats Atony!

Thomas - I notice the ZT logo has almost a colored/holographic look to it, very cool!

Now I wonder about getting a g10 handle...

I must say i absolutely LOVE this knife, It fits my hand perfect and feels so solid. My liner had a little surface rust/patina/??...I sanded it down with ultra fine paper and gave it a WD-40 soak, cleaned the rest of the knife and oiled it.
Its absolutely perfect and will not leave my pocket for a LONG LONG time :)

Thanks to all involved with bringing this knife to life, I greatly appreciate it!!

This is directed,point-blank,no excuses at the following members:

Scott Neelan,xtonesterx,JTR357,Jroden5446,spiralarchitect,PG5768,mqqn,knifenut1013,atony, and perhaps a few I've missed...and you know who you are!

Please do me a favor & post a few pix that are entirely too dark,a few that are blurred from hand tremors,a few that are out of focus, maybe one or two that are over-exposed...or part of the subject cut off. ;)

Otherwise,I may never be able to post any of my pathetic photographic efforts here,as they all share at least two of the above-listed criteria...often more!

~Gnarly :D

I was looking at my grey back drop I use and how disgusting it looks, but it has cleaned every knife i've bought since the frenzy started. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder Gnarly.:D

I would love to see a video on how to tear down this knife.

I managed to loosen the screws and slide the scale over to check for rust (almost none) but I am skittish about messing with the pivot.

Just a thought...

It is almost fool proof. Very easy, have faith my brother.

Great idea,Gator33324!

This knife is now my finest; a prized possession.

I'll confess: I've taken apart things before, without coherent instructions, that were never the same, afterward.

Dammit.

And I always said, afterward: I've learned my lesson.

Not experimenting with this one!

Yeah...its not the taking apart I'm worried about, it's the putting back together.

Mine is in such fantastic shape, I'd hate to mess it up.

But what's the worst that can happen?
