New ZT0550 Thread !!!

Incredible collection jonnymac!:thumbup::eek:

plus another HUGE Thanks to Jroden5446 for his action shots & mqqn for his clean,crisp photography.:thumbup::thumbup:

Did a little more protection board cutting( in total 90 linear feet)which is basically pressed tar and fiber, the 0551 did fairly well, but due to blade thickness it tended to bind( I usually cut this with a razor knife) cutting with only the tip worked quite well, but I would only use it in a pinch, right tool for the job and all that

The pics look like roofing and landscaping work. I am interested in seeing how the Elmax holds up.

Not really a roofer, we do waterproofing. pool decks and large parking decks. Polyurethane coatings, caulking and hot applied liquid rubbers( kinda like roofing, but different) mostly over non air conditioned space

Here's another comparison shot with some of my other larger Ti-Framelocks.
I apologize for the quality/lighting.

Hi JTR -

Cool shot -

Of all of those, just looking at them, I like the 551 the best -

A couple of things I have noted in the two days I have had the knife -

One, it is a fatty! That is not a bad thing, it is a little wider than most folders and that makes it confidence-inspiring, adding to it's hard-use personality imo.

Two, the detent is more than many of my friends can take! I am easily able to get the blade to deploy with a nice clack to lockup, but some of the people I have showed the knife to cannot even get past the detent using a thumb on the thumbstud.

My knife is getting nice and broken in - it is a great knife!

best regards -

I don't see where the complaints(?) are coming from either about the detent strength.

Try any DDR & then you will feel a STRONG detent.Heck,my Trigger Maze has not one,but two detent balls.Yet,I open it with the flipper all the time.

Yes,I agree this is a BIG,BEEFY FOLDER!It's balance out nicely though.I love it!:thumbup::)

Those having difficulty with the detent ball may be putting too much pressure on the lockbar while trying to open the knife.

This knife actually performs better( opening and closing) after 3 days of hard use than it did new. At first it was a bit tough to open and unlock and close one handed, now it's nicely broken in, it's a dream

When I cleaned out the factory lube and replaced with blue lube it was like a switch blade. A light thumb flick and it would come out like it had a AO, I can't do it now though mine's at KAI :(
