New ZT0550 Thread !!!

Drain board, this stuff is pretty tough to cut, the strong grip you can get with the 551 is a big help

Here's another comparison shot with some of my other larger Ti-Framelocks.
I apologize for the quality/lighting.

I see you took a Scotchbrite pad to your 'Zaan. They look great that way.

Sweet collection of ZTs Ranger!

Thanks man. :D It's great to see how well yours is holding up.
At some point I have to get pictures of everything together.

JTR357's picture makes me feel better about how much I spent on them. Nice blades!

Those having difficulty with the detent ball may be putting too much pressure on the lockbar while trying to open the knife.

I agree, this is most likely the issue. I had to change mine to tip down carry because I kept pressing on the lockbar on accident. :o Now that my fingers can rest on the pocket clip, the knife opens nice and easy.

I hope no one minds, but I was getting jealous of all the sweet folder collections ( more of a fixed blade guy myself) so I took the ZT0551 outside with my 3 favorite fixed blades and took a few glamour shots, thanks for allowing a bit of indulgence.

Ser# 233.. The lockup is at 50%, blade is centered, and the liner is fine..great knife! Can't wait to use it on everything..

Jon, we are twins of the knife world brother. The only difference between the knives in that pic and if I took one of my own is that all the clips have been flipped on mine (except for the Speedform... for now). That is a great picture with some outstanding knives.

Thanks Tony! It always seems we're buying the same things!:D I can't argue with your taste buddy!!

Thanks also to Jroden and JTR and PG for the comments:thumbup:

As for my #33, I carried it today and for a big knife it's pretty comfy in the pocket. Unfortunately I didn't have too many things to cut today:( I'll put her to work soon enough!

After seeing pix of some of the fine knives pictured here,I've had an epiphany!

....I can't play in this league....:grumpy: ....I don't belong here........My paycheck would need another zero before the decimal point........I'd better go back to being a lurker....:o....I'll hafta slink under the porch....:(....No t-shirt for me....:foot:....

That said,

Working up from the bottom requires dedication.

Running an organization from the top down requires attention, perspiration and ability to withstand frustration.

You have one, and only one, opportunity to make a first impression. Thomas knows and understands this.

The party relieved of duty did not adequately justify the failure to complete the assigned task with the required dillegence.

Crap flows downhill.

Kershaw did a pretty nice job on this knife, and with the follow up, no?

That is all, and happy Holidays!

Best Regards,

The people here first complained about the knife, now they complain about the T-shirt. If I were you, I won't even admit to be his brother, haha. :p

After all the pics, the arguments, the complaints, the praise, etc. in this thread, I'm not really sure there's anything else left to say about the 0551. Anyone who's not on a pre-order for the next batch should be. This is an excellent knife, and it's given me great hope and expectations for the 0550 when it makes its debut, not to mention the future Hinderer/ZT productions.

A big thanks to Rick, Thomas, and everyone who had a hand in the making of these knives. And a second helping of thanks to Thomas for being the one who had to deal with the rabid dogs here on the forums, from beginning to end. I'd never, ever want to be in his shoes, and the fact that he kept his cool and managed not to launch the curse-filled tirade at us that some of us deserved is a testament to the man IMO.

I FINALLY got my 0551 today and took care of the rust inside of 10 minutes with my buffing wheels. There IS the one quirk I noticed about this knife, and it's not about the rust or anything else anyone has mentioned here. I'm having an extremely difficult time opening the knife with one hand. I suspect this has something to do with the ball detent, because loosening the pivot doesn't help until it's loose enough for the blade to hit both sides of the handle when closed. Opening by pushing against the thumb studs does absolutely nothing. Opening with a "flicking" motion sort of works, but leaves my thumb nail sore.

Can I assume that the detent will eventually "wear" in being that it's a titanium framelock?

Should, I can thumb flick mine with ease. I'd say mine has a medium to strong detent but the opening action is axis lock smooth.
