New ZT0550 Thread !!!

Well, she got here much quicker than I expected. Picked it up today from the Post Office. It will definitely be my EDC for a while. Here's some quick thoughts and pics:

  • The G-10 scale has a lot more grip than I thought it was going to have.
  • The weight is just right for a blade this size.
  • Easily opens with a flick of the thumb stud.
  • Very solid lockup at about 50%; no blade play in any direction.
  • Very sharp out of the box; easily shaves hair.

My thumb stud does not open with one hand. I've been opening it via pushing on the blade with my right hand. I can open it by pushing on the nlade near the thumb stud.

Well, I had about given up hope but I just got my e-mail from Dave. He was able to get me in after all. It's already paid for, hopefully I'll have it soon.

I guess I'll have to buy something else from GP Knives.

Received mine today. This thing is a beast. I had been having second thoughts about ordering it but no longer. I am now going to have to bump the Sebenza out of the rotation for a little while. One question though - why does the lock bar have a cut out in it almost halfway down? Seems this would create a weak point in the slab. Any thoughts? Not bashing in anyway - I really like the knife - just trying to figure this out.

Trust me, it loosens up over time(though your thumb will get SORE). Some members suggested moving the clip to a tip down carry and pushing the thumb stud straight up:thumbup:.

That cutout is an important part of the design. It offers the spring that you need to get the lockbar to move. A cutout is a part of every Ti framelock as far as I know.

Thanks. My Sebenza has one but it does not seem so prominent.

I can open mine with my left thumb pushing the thumb stud. Nice and smooth. When I use my right hand. No go. Must be a lefty blade. I'm a nightie. I'll keep playing with it. Just weird the left hand works and the right hand doesn't.

Right hand fingertips are pressing the lock in against the blade,I'll bet.
Therefore left hand works best....make sense?

Someone-a few posts back-pointed this out; I can't take credit.

I just changed the clip to the opposite end,to avoid the same situation.
Now she flies open with a thhhhwack!

I can verify this ....I was having the same problem , I changed the clip to tip down and now its workin fine.

Looks the same to me. It's just that the lockbar is so ludicrously thick that it makes the cutout look thinner than it really is.

The exact opposite of my first impressions after unboxing. I found the blade crazy hard to deploy and I know about the fingers against lockbar issue. I wished it would fly open with a flick of the thumbstud. :(

Weight was okay but the blade is small actually when compared to a BM 710 or Spyd Military. It felt okay but looked kinda weird with the little blade sticking out of the big beefy handle. :)

Lockup on mine was almost "full" one-to-one ratio of lockbar to blade interface - an immmediate issue for me anyway. :(

The cutout on the ti lockbar visually looked ridiculously deep and kind of spooky thin for a hard use knife. This was addressed in the pics posted above by KeepmSharp and is aparently an optical illusion as shown by the close-ups compared to the ZT 0301. A non-issue now :)

A nice knife at it's price point and just a shame that there was that rusting issue with some of them. I'm glad to see Kershaw/ZT jumped right on it and Thomas is to be commended for his efforts to make everyone happy which he has done w/o any arm twisting.

Way to go Thomas! Unlike some companies that leave customers' complaints unaddressed, you've set the bar high in my eyes with this knife.

She said: You're right; that's a nice knife.It's unusual-looking,but nice.

Later she said: Are you playing with that new knife again?

After supper, she said: If you don't stop yanking it out of your pocket & flicking it open, you're gonna wear it out! Does it have a warranty?

When I put it on the nightstand, next to the Incendio V3,she said: It's a good thing one side is smoother than the other!

When I asked why,she said: Because that's the side that was rubbing on your pocket, every time you got it out to admire it again.

When I woke up,the ZT/H was gone off the nightstand, and she had put the black Spec Bump in it's place.

Got to the kitchen, found a fresh pot of coffee and a love note, using the (opened) ZT/H as a paperweight.

Note said: Sorry! I was looking at it before work. It opens fine, but I'm gonna break a nail if I push hard enough on that locking thingy to close it.Love U!

(She's such a girl.)

There is another lesson here. You now know she can sneak over and steal your knives while you're sleeping. Don't piss her off! :)

I agree 100%!! These issues were handled with class and promptness. I'm glad my knife was on the second batch and all the issues were corrected. But for those of you that had issues, I don't think you can be upset with the level of service that was given to make things right. Thanks to Thomas and Dave for all their efforts.
