New ZT0550 Thread !!!

10~4, Thank you Dave. Just to be clear the fact that it would be here was never in doubt. I was just trying to formulate a timeline because of some weird issues when it comes to receiving packages on my end on occasion. Nothing to do with you at all.

I did the gift pay thinking it would transfer the cost of the transaction to me thereby saving you a little $. I thought it a nice gesture is all.

This is all new to me so if it was actually an inconvenience to you I apologize. Like I said I actually thought I was doing you a favor by taking on the expense (albeit a small one).
Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

Happy holidays,

BP Green

No No , it is fine , I appreciate the thought , I actually don't think it costs you or me to send as a gift. It isn't a biggie to me, I like saving the fees, but it actually isn't better for the customer, because you don't get an automatic tracking number, you are not covered by paypal if package doesn't show up, and neither is the seller actually. So it is just a little loosey goosey, but I do have many that pay that way. No worries, I will take care of my customers, They pay my bills. Thanks, Dave

LOL, Ok Dave. All good on this end too. Like I said, I figured you must be busier than the proverbial one ~ legged man. As eveyone else has said, you are doing a bang up job keeping up with these orders.

Thank you. . .

Just found this preorder list....was the fifth to say: I Want One!
Only 250 made;Elmax Black blade, $5 more than the ZT/H 0551.

I may have got some signals crossed on this version of black blade, let's relax on this till first of the week and I will get my story straight.

Thanks Guys
Dave
Dave, any update on this? I didn't want to ask on the sign up thread and create mass confusion.
Since it had already been mentioned here I figured I'd ask here.
Thanks in advance....

I have a question for you guys that sent yours back to be fixed. Did they give you any notice or tracking number before sending it back to you? I sent mine back to have the thumb stud fixed. When I called to check on it, the lady on the phone said it would be 4 to 6 weeks and there would be no notice, it would just show up. Just wondered if anyone else had this experience or did I talk to the wrong person.

I'm curious about the same thing myself.

I haven't called because I figure they are pretty swamped right now. But I can't imagine they would pay for overnight air shipping to get the knife back and then take 4-6 weeks to return the fixed/replacement knife.

I figure that can't be correct because some have already received them back.

couple of pics so you can see the cutout of the ti next to a 300

Thanks for the great pics. The 0551 looks thinner in the pics. Got my digital calipers out and measured the Ti thickness in the cut-outs on my 0551 and 0301. 0551=0.048" thick and 0301=0.044" thick.

Teacher,

I figure we'll get news on the black one, maybe first of the week?

(Where's the smilie for 'keep fingers crossed'?)

That's great idea and good that you posted that info, since the 0551 looks like it's ready to have a "blow out" at the cut out. Comforting to know it's cut out still leaves a thicker bit of titanium than that of the proven ZT 0301.

Can't imagine either one failing at the cut out unless you're doing something "crazy". If I can figure out how to do close ups I'll try to do pics of both readings and include my 0300, too.

You know, there is a reason why titanium is used for the lock-side handle for frame-lock folding knives, specifically this material's ability to flex and not eventually crack from stress.

Thanks Dave the knife arrived today. Incredibly fast service and packed with care, I believe you went above and beyond and for that you will be my only source for Kershaw's.

Hello all,
I've been reading this post and really enjoying it.. I have been trying to find the post where I purchased my ZT 0551, I got it from Trix2004.. I had No idea he did all of the work himself, I'd love to have a scale like this one for another knife... Is there anyway you can help me leave you feedback? Trix2004, can you help me find your for sale page where you had this Wonderful knife posted? (ZT 0551 that is now mine) Please
Eric

Used my new ZT/H 0551 to slice some venison summer sausage & extra-sharp cheddar for crackers, seated on my meditation stump in the woods overlooking Cottonmouth Swamp,in the frost & fog.

The lockbar stabilizer mitigates any problem with this. That is the primary design function of the part. Rick has a clearly written explanation of the various design characteristics of the XM-18 on his website. Two of these items explained on Ricks website, the Lockbar Stabilizer and the thumbstud/bladestop, apply to this ZT model. It's all about eliminating torque points on a folder.

CZIV, I'm not picking on you personally, there are a lot of people on these forums who get caught up in these issues. The wrong ideas tend to spread until they become almost a Gospel message. It's important to remember the things like you mentioned: the ZT 301's don't suffer framelock cutout failures. So why is it a new "Issue" with the newest ZT?

If people took the time to research Ricks design philosophy, via his website, they would have a much better understanding of how and why Hinderer/Strider, (and, to some extent, the CRK Umnumzaan), are built the way they are. The questions of “weak”, and “possible failure”, points would be moot.

bearcut - I'm not picking on you personally, but some of us feel we have the right to express an "opinion" such as "looks like" it's ready to have a blow out.

This means grammatically - "has the appearance of." Further, anyone who thinks a forum post that contains someone's opinion that some "widget" gives that observer the "appearance" of whatever, and takes it as a Gospel message, probably shouldn't be allowed to own a knife - in this case.

This picture illustrates what "looks like" the 0551's thin lock-bar cut out and it's been pointed out more than once by other members in the 2nd (older) ZT0550 Pictures thread. Optical illusion pic:

No worries, I didn't take it personally.

I'm pointing out the fatal flaws of "group think" that tends to pervade BF at times.
