The standard 0550 will look something like this:

O Lawdy

That's awesome! I was hoping for a non-coated blade on the production model and there it is. :D Will it be stone washed? Bead Blasted?

Also that G10 pattern is just friggin' awesome looking.

Stonewashed it will be.

Thomas,

Would I be correct in assuming that asside from the steel and g-10 pattern the 0551 and 0550 are identical?

More than likely, although there may be slight mods that I'm unaware of at this time.

Gotta keep you guessing...

Combo edge, Spanto... maybe a flipper?

Can live without the combo edge here  ,but must continue to push for the Spanto flipper :D:D:D!

Gotta go now...as soon as Thomas W. mentioned the ZT/H 0560, I knew I'd better email Kershawguy and get on the pre-order list....already signed up for the black ZT/H 0551,if it happens, and already signed up for the ZT/H 0550...must not miss out.

Must not miss out.

Back later; somebody save my place.

Between NY and CA....Its a race to see which will be a police state first.:barf: Remember this next time you vote on your politicians.

Well spoken. If you really want to be irritated by knife enforcement in NYS read this and watch the video at the bottom. "Oh Heaven, save us from knifes! They are sharp! They Cut. We are all going to die!"

FWIW, I found a Southern dealer that will sell/ship a ZT 0551 to me! He is quite familiar with NYC's oppressive enforcement of the gravity knife and switch blade law. Not only did he previously live in NYS, he lived in my home town!

Same here, combo edge is terrible to me. Not a lot of love for the flipper either.
YMMV........

Long story short...

I keep pleading for a flipper because of two separate old motorcycle injuries which has affected both thumbs...not a lotta grip with left hand, period.

I'm right-handed,and have good grip there, but I struggle with thumbs

Right thumb got caught in barbwire, when I swerved to miss a collie dog in a curve,on wet leaves...and the bike came out from under me.

(For those here with mega road miles on a bike, you're aware that wet leaves in curves are almost as treacherous as snow/ice.)

The left hand injury came from dropping a friend's panhead motor/tranny on it.Too dumb and avoidable to discuss. :jerkit:

Bottom line: those of us with handicaps, even self-inflicted :foot: need knives that are easy to open! And in my case,a flipper is much easier.

.

Hmmm. . . a collie huh? I love all dogs but a collie broke my knee cap when I was around seven. What the hell is with those dogs anyway?!?:D

Agreed: no combo edges!
Besides, every steak knife in America has those friggin' serrations.
And if yer blade is sharp: no need to 'saw' thru stuff.

As to collie dogs: I dunno. Maybe Lassie raised our expectations...

No, no, no. I'll say it again. It's not all of NY state. It is New York City which includes Manhattan, Staten Island, Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. It is not the whole state. Please keep this in mind in future posts. It is not a race to see which will be a police state first because it is not NY state that has the silly knife laws. It is only the five buroughs listed. People see things like your post and automatically assume that these laws apply to all of NY state.

That's why I couldn't buy the Ti/ZDP-189 Leek I wanted.

My 0551 had traveled a long way and arrived today, just in time for Christmas...Thanks, Dave! (Just curious: how many people ordered this knife from outside the States?)

Fit and finish is great, very solidly built, no complaints whatsoever. Someone said earlier that the G10 felt almost like sandpaper...my feeling is that it's not as bad as that, actually I don't feel the brick-like pattern of the G10 is uncomfortable at all.

Also, with the knife in hand I can see why some people, based on the pictures alone, would be led to think that the lock cutout is too thin. It is because the cutout is not flat but sloping outwards from the lock. So when a picture is taken directly in front of the cutout the latter appears to be thin because the exterior part of the cutout 'slopes' out of view.

I am glad that I placed an order for this knife and more so that it arrives before Christmas. Thanks to all the people at Kershaw and Dave who made this possible!
