New ZT0550!!!

I'm just trying to say that one picture of one framelock failure with the cut on the inside pops up and everyone kind of freaks out. The cutout is different on the two models plain and simple. CRK has been using the inside double cut out since the inception of the Sebenza and I haven't heard anyone up in arms about their Sebenza failing on them. I'm sure that Rick Hinderer and ZT, on their own, each know how to put a framelock together. When the two come together for a collaboration I'm positive that we're going to get a solid framelock.

I just don't understand how one picture can have everyone so concerned about the inside cutout on the lockbar. I still think that the difference between a rounded cutout and a square cutout can make a huge difference. I guess I could be wrong. I guess I just expect that Rick wouldn't let ZT slack on aything and I'm sure that ZT wouldn't slack on anything to begin with.

I don't care if it weighs half a pound. I carry a Leek and an 0301 in the same pocket. I wouldn't even notice it.

Now I just need to figure out how to fit the 0550 in between those 2. :D

Any chance this knife comes out in two sizes, with a bigger brother variant?
Ultimately, a 8"ish_OAL (3"blade) and a 9"ish_OAL (4" blade ) version would please everyone!!!

I probably won't buy it with that extension at the butt. Especially in a smaller knife, all a skull-crusher does for me is poke me in the palm. I'm not happy about that, because otherwise, it looks like a great knife.

Esav, maybe you missed this post by Thomas?

I believe we've opted on a regular back spacer, but there will be probably be a variation that incorporates the pictured one. I'm sure there will be multiple blade finishes as well.

There you go for all of you who hate the window breaker thingy.:)
Damn it, the guy above posted it quicker...grrrr.

No, it would not. A glass-breaker works by concentrating the full force of the blow on as small a point as possible.

Any particular reason why Vanax 35 for this knife and Vanax 75 for the other folder? Just "steel experimenting" or more based on their properties?

And would you happen to have same piece of "hype" about Vanax 75 from Uddeholm?
I think we are experimenting a tad. We have a bit of Euro steel love these days, so we've recently opted on ELMAX, Vanax 35 & 75, and M390 to go along with our 14C28. Choices are good, and we want to stay fresh.

We initially liked the corrosion resistance idea of V35, and got hooked with the performance aspect attached to it. On paper, it looks like really solid. We'll see what the real world brings. I don't see any concerns at this time...well other than grinding it. :)

Uddeholm has yet to have any published material on V75 that I'm aware of. I believe they are working on it now. As soon as I receive it, I'll post it.

I do think you will eventually see the 0550 produced with a couple of steel options.

3.25" blade sounds fine to me. Since everyone is clammoring for 3.5" and 3" XM-18's, wouldn't it make sense to split the difference on the production collaboration to try and please the majority?

If we follow along with Tony's logic its clear that Rick and ZT will come out with a 3.75 inch version of this knife. That should sell like marijuana brownies at a "WHO" concert. :D

As I said I am thrilled to be working with Kershaw and ZT and as Thomas said we will be very busy in the future!;)

Rick Hinderer
We are of course, excited to be working with you as well Rick!

We kicked a lot of ideas around throughout the weekend, and I'm trusting the 0550 to be the first of many of Rick's projects. (no, I don't know what they are as of today :))

Aww come on Esav. You can just have that point ground away if you needed it gone. ;)
You know you will be buying it, it's calling to you already... Shh, did ya hear that? :o

How about more pics :D

This thing looks awesome. Seems to be the perfect size to me. Striders come in 4", 3.5", and 3" blades. XM-18's come in 3.5" and 3" blades. Sebenza's come in 3.75" and 3" blades. And the ZT 300 series is 3.75". I am very happy to see something in between. I do like larger blades, but knife laws here are so vague, I think pretty much anything could get confiscated, so I like to carry smaller blades. But sometimes I would like something a little larger than 3". Very glad to see a ti framelock, built like a tank in this size. Cant wait to get my hands on one.

A few months back I remember thinking to myself how great it would be if ZT teamed up with Hinderer, and now it is actually happening. Awesome.

That would be the ideal size for me as well. If I could have my choice I would like a 4", stonewashed, spanto ground blade. Unfortunately for me, they didn't contact me for my input. Instead, I think Rick and the team at ZT tried to come up with the best design they could that would please the vast majority. While I may want things different than what they produced I'm not going to knock what they have produced because I feel they did a damn fine job.

We'll all find out in the long run anyway. These are going to fly once they're released.
