New ZT0550!!!

I'm don't feel a piece needs to be long to be a beast...maybe it's just me.

The 0350 is no slouch and certainly not a "gentleman's" knife in terms of usability. The 0550 is slightly longer but appears to be even more robust. If heavy duty or stout equals beast, then from what I've seen so far it looks like the 0550 qualifies. That and being the first of what looks like to be a long collaboration between ZT and Rick Hinderer has me very excited about this knife.

+1

I don't see any advantage to slapping another 1/2"-3/4" onto the blade length. 3.5" or under is ideal for a work knife, imho. If anything, folders with blades above 3.5" tend to be a bit unwieldly, imho.

I 100% agree. 3.5 is definately all the blade I have EVER needed for anything I've ever done with a folder. In fact, if it were any bigger I would not even be interested.

A Benchmade 710, Spyderco Military, ZT 0300 unwieldly - beasts? Blasphemy....:D Just kidding but c'mon if you have a 710 at 3.9" or ever wielded one, they're just unbelievable. What about the beautiful (near perfect IMHO) Endura 4 G-10 at 3 3/4"?

I've never handled a 710, so I don't know what I'm missing on that count...

Honestly, though, the Endura's blade (mine's a gen. 3, with just exactly 4" in the blade - maybe the Endura 4 is different) is just a bit too long for me. Mine doesn't see much pocket time, only use in the kitchen. I found the same with a couple of Cold Steel offerings, the ti-lite and the voyager.

It's just a strange preference of mine - the 2.5"-3.5" range seems to be kind of a 'sweet spot' for me when it comes to blade length.

I guess you're in luck with this one. It's a looker. :)

4 inch blades simply aren’t for everyone, if you that extra quarter to a half inch of blade length is a must have for you then get a 0300. Personally I don’t really care I EDC I wide verity of blade lengths and the 550 fits nicely into the middle.

Kershaw and ZT seem to be trying to fill the gaps in their product line and IMO they are doing an incredible job.

As far as the 0550, when it does hit the streets I’m going to have one. And I’ve got little doubt it will compare well against some of my favorite EDC knives for pocket time.

It's great to hear that this does indeed have a 3.5" blade! That just makes it all the more appealing to me... :)

Have we had any confirmation if this will be an assisted opening knife yet?
Sorry if I missed it, but that is something that really interests me (I personally LOVE speedsafe). Regardless I will be picking up a stonewashed version!
Thanks,
Alex

Based on the lack of a backspacer where it would be needed for speedsafe, and the lack of a liner, I'd say that this one is full manual.

I think I won't pull trigger with ZT 302 just yet and see how things develope with 0550. I do dig non A/O more so ZT 0550 would be sweet.

I'm not sure if this has already been asked, but does does the thumbstud/stop pin touch the G-10 scale? It looks like the non-locking side is straight G-10 if I'm not mistaken. My understanding is that if one were to allow that type of contact, the G-10 would become loose from the contact. I'm sure that won't be an issue with this knife, so I'm wondering how it was resolved.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely gonna have to get one.

striders dont contact the G10 and it isnt a problem, so what's the issue exactly?

Thomas, please fast track these beauties into production..

Ok, I perhaps I am merely wishing out loud, but still....

:)
