I want a flame-finish on the Ti on mine!

Stone-washed would be my second choice. Plain Ti is meh...

Has a thread been done explaining what to expect with Elmax at a blade steel. I'm familiar with D2, ATS-34, S30V...the old standards. So I'm interested to know how Elmax compares. Thanks gw

Yeah, I asked the same thing.

Still hoping that someone would post a review (or some first hand experience) on this new ELMAX steel..

Schuey, the steel is fairly new to the US from what I've been able to find out. The only knife maker I've heard of that uses it is Emil Bucharsky and I'm not sure what happened to his site.
EDIT: There is also the ZT 0350CB, I ended up getting one, but I haven't carried the knife yet. I've been using a S30V 0350 and a SE Military for a while now.

I did read Rev's link on the other page but didn't find myself clear how it compared to S30V. I suppose I'm interested in someone saying they've used it and it holds an edge like so, and is this hard to sharpen, and the edge rolls this amount etc.

Since the ZT350 has it, I know you guy's with that knife will has some personal experiances to share about it soon.

Thanks everyone.

I gifted my brother a 0350 CB, I would not put it in a class of "weak" but it is thinner and lighter than the 0300. I actually like its size and weight better than the 0300 I had, plus the blade thickness difference makes it a much better cutter. I don't know how much abuse you put a folder through but if its enough to break either then your technique of use should probably be altered.

The ELMAX steel thus far is holding a "shaving sharp" edge longer than a S30V type of steel and is seemingly subject to less deformations of the edge. So far its just been daily cutting and no real aggressive cutting test yet so this is NOT to say it better but its going in that direction at the moment.

Coming from one of our resident sharpening and blade steel observation gurus, I'm quite confident that the ELMAX blade will be more than adequate for EDC tasks. This particular remark: "I would not put it in a class of "weak" but it is thinner and lighter than the 0300" - "weak" is referring to the knife and blade thickness as compared to the 0300 series - not the blade steel per se.

I posted a link somewhere that compared ELMAX to S30V as very similar with the grain being able to take a more refined edge. I'm confident that Kershaw "won't put out no junk!" :D

Thanks CZIV!! Knifenuts comments are exactly what I was interested in hearing. I never doubted it or Kershaw's use of excellent steel.

I intend to do a pre-order on this knife as soon as Thomas tells us who's selling them. And, I'm interested in this Elmax enough that I just may grab a ZT350 in the meantime. Thanks gw

EDIT: I'm on order for a ZT350 with a composite blade. That's just too cool!!
I should be able to answer my own questions about Elmax soon. :)

Sorry guys to have to edit my edit. I am on order for a ZT350.

Considering I haven't even written up the paperwork, given it a model #, worked out all spec details, or even priced the knife, I'm shocked there is a pre-order available.

Fair enough, Thomas, but I'm sure you understand the urgency many of us have in making sure we obtain one for our own grubby paws...

As much anticipation as there is for this knife, it doesn't surprise me at all. Can't say I'd trust a company that'll let you preorder a knife that's not even officially scheduled for release, let alone priced, though...
