...who gives a rats ass about post count? grow up.

why do you find the need to instigate. were all here waiting for the same damn thing.

posting asking about his silence is a real addition to this thread...give me a break.

Is October for the limited Elmax one that was preordered, or the main release?

I'm pretty sure that was for the "original" version, with the Vanax steel. I'm assuming the limited run Elmax version should be out within the next couple months if all goes well. Of course, it depends on how much of their production equipment is devoted to making the Elmax version versus figuring out how to get the Vanax version to cooperate with their grinders.

Yeah I'm just hoping the surprise is the bigger pivot, making it a harder use knife....the kind of steel....I could care less. The date it's released on ....I do care about that. JUST PUT THE THING OUT! But seriously I'm REALLY anxious because if all things go well this will be my first ZT purchase and I've been looking to get one for a lone time.

I think I remember reading earlier in this thread that someone tested both and found them to be good steels....Sal something or another.

Here's what I think....Rick makes quality knives...he wouldn't put his name on anything that wasn't quality so these new steels....I don't care and am not concerned. I'll probably buy one of each and see what I personally think.

I've gotta say, that's the first time I've ever seen/heard the founder of Spyderco being referred to as "Sal something or another". I think you were trying for Sal Glesser :p.

Anyway, from what I've found, not much hard info is out there, but what is says good things about both steels. Elmax seems to be a tougher, slightly easier to sharpen S30V, and Vanax has supposedly proven hard to grind at the factory based on what Thomas has said previously, which makes it sound rather tough and implies it'll hold an edge extremely well.

Really its no offense....I'm a bit drunk and I'm not meaning anything by it just lazy and forgot his last name. Not a fan of spyderco but that isn't the point....there was ABSOLUTELY no offense to that post. But I think you knew that already.

Signed off a 500 piece sprint run on Friday. We have some of the new ELMAX steel we can utilize. There are still some design changes we need to go over with Rick, and a few details need to be ironed out, but I'd imagine those will be taken care of in short order. Lets say late Sept/early Oct. on these.

Finished up all the paperwork, it's officially on the factory floor schedule.

I know there will be a minimum of at least 2 variations. :) The ELMAX and the Vanax versions. The ELMAX variation will incorporate a stonewashed finish, and a standard backspacer. Looks like we will build around 900 pieces.

Oh yea, Rick made a design change

MSRP will be $250

It's not a flipper.

You guys are animals. :D All this info and you want more.

Yeah, I knew there was no offense. I just couldn't resist making a comment on that one.

Except the part where it says DESIGN CHANGES! and that one post about a surprise!

Do you really think it's going to be radical design changes? Small things like the cutout depth, the size of the forward choil, hole positioning for the clip may be changed. The standoff designs could be changed. It was already stated that the ELMAX version is going to lose the glassbreaker.

As far as the surprise goes.... Well, that's why it's called a surprise. I doubt anyone will be disappointed with any surprise that Rick may want to incorporate into the design of the knife.

Not radical, of course not but it could still be a deal breaker for SOME people. Personally if it has that small pivot I'll go with a 300/301/302 instead. Almost all ZT's if not all have HUGE pivots same with the XM-18 it's that strider bull pivot. I just think in the knife world this is the most anticipated knife, look at the 27 pages, and EVERYONE wants to know ALL the details ASAP.

Thanks for the quotes, Tony. Looks like I was wrong about October being the date for the Vanax one. It's clearly mentioned as being for the Elmax version. I forget about the lead times something like this would require, not to mention all the other steps in the process that would definitely add time to the production process.

This is a cool looking knife wish the blade was a little longer but none the less nice work.

Im not going to tell you all of the thing that I would have liked to have seen on this new addition to the ZT line because that would make it into something that it was not ment to be. However I will ask that you please not discontinue the 0300 series. I plan on buying a 0550 but that does NOT mean that I want the 0300s to go away. We clear?!

Oh and if you are going to add something to the 0550 from the 0300 feel free to drop in the AO. I love it!!!!
