Yes. We'll create something new for the 0550.

May I be the first to suggest a pattern similar to Diamond Plating?

I'm getting anxious to buy a new ZT knife. :) This is going to be a sweet one!

Stay sharp,

Fingers crossed that it's just as interesting.

...what are the things exclusive to the 551?

Interesting, brick-like G10 pattern
Elmax steel
No choil?

Etc?
The finish on the blade and hardware may differ slightly. Backspacer will probably be changed up.

OK, can someone give me the rundown of what the of what's happening? Are all the changes including the Elmax blade going to be on the 550 or we talkin a different knife? 0551?

I have a preorder in but if I can get Elmax then that is what I want, that steel is amazing!

now that the choil and pommel are gone im definitely buying one. i hope they give it a highly polished satin blade. i also need to figure out what elmax and vanax are lol

edit:after looking at just the raw data, vanax 35 seems to have "superior percentages" compared to elmax steel. how do they actually perform?

I had some charts up in different browsers comparing the 2 steels and it appears that you're right. I'm interested in the 2nd one myself as it may have stand-offs instead of the rear spacer. Thomas is keeping this difference close to the vest, but I'm sure they'll both be nice - win / win! :)

Hey Guys, just in case you have a few with those glassbreakers and since no one else wants them then I'll take 'em :). I happen to love the concept!

Yeah It does look like a production XM-18 which is good because the availability on the XM-18 SUCKS! But then it's not anyones fault....it's the perfect folder.

This might sound controversial, but the 0300 was already a production XM-18ish knife in my mind. It always had more in common with the hinderer designs then the strider designs IMO. I'm not bashing the 055X, I just wish it had more to offer pre-existing 030X owners in terms of innovation and resemblance

When ever I stare at my 0301 from this angle, it's hard not to mistake it for a XM...

What does the 030X have in common with the XM designs?

1-S30v blade
2-G10 scale
3-Framelock
4-Hinderer stabilizer
5-Flipper
6-Metal liner on G10 side
7-Thumb stud blade stop
8-Blade stop contacts both sides of the handle
9-Framelock cutout on outside

1-G10 scale
2-Framelock
3-Hinderer stabilizer
4-Thumb stud blade stop
5-Blade stop when closed
6-Esthetically more similar looking, incl. blade grind

I will probly end up buying a 055X, but it's pretty pointless to own both a 0300 and a 0550, probably end up keeping just one. These two knives will really be duking it out in terms of sales. In fact, they will probably end up cannibalizing each other's sales. ZT will have a firebird vs camero scenario on their hands pretty soon. But the new hinderer, given its obvious appeal and hype will probably be crowned the victor.

I'll have to disagree with you there. Not all XM-18s had flippers and many didn't have S30V.

I think the 0550/1 perfectly represents Rick's willingness to experiment with different steels and designs.

Good on you, Rick and Thomas.
