If I get one it will be a beater/heavy use EDC knife. Zip ties, clamshell, cardboard, that type of hard use, hard on the edge at least. :p I wish I could use my knives harder, but a bad steak is the toughest thing I've cut in a month with my EDC. :p

By the way, what is the latest informed consensus on the 0551 ship date? I will be away for some months and want to be around to take delivery.

This information is not accurate and should not even be discussed in open forum, I have a main list and a standby list and everyone that has emailed me knows which they are on.

Thanks
Dave

I can't really say that I am sure which list I am on ("main" or "standby" or "list" weren't used), other than I'm guessing I am on the main one just because I wasn't told anything about standby.

Let me say this to reassure everyone that has contacted me, if I did not tell you you were on a standby list, that means you are on the main list and I will have a knife for you. I only went to a standby list in the past week or so, and I have informed each person on that list that they will get a knife only if others opt out and I will be sending payment info hopefully a week before knives ship so we can get that taken care of ahead of time. Thanks for all your orders and your support.

Sincerely
Dave ( Kershawguy)

That's right! All we need now are some knives! :D

Trust me, I want them as bad as you do. I also know that Kershaw has a lot going on and all will not stop for one knife, even as cool as it is. They will do what they can and we will appreciate it more the longer we wait. It will be worth it !!

A bit of a odd request but......

Thomas, what's the chances of getting a unsharpened 0551?

Yep, that's an odd one alright!!:D

Most people will be happy just to get one at all, let alone one with special requests:p Knifenut, you know you're going to go on a wicked sharpening spree with this one, why not just start where Kershaw left off?;)

That is saying that the artist painted the canvas wrong. These are not kit knives. This is a collaboration between two artists.

If you want a fresh canvas build your own knives. What would happen if your one off hand ground model made it to the streets? How would they warranty that?

Maybe I am wrong but that was a disrespectful request.

That is my exact feeling on tattoos on women...I think nature did just right with them...

Having said that, to your other point, I don't think it is disrespectful. It will be knifenuts knife, he can do what he wants with it.

Doesn't seem to be disrespectful... Its known that a large number of knife enthusiasts are going to re-profile their edges no matter what the manufacturer does... So, to want the knife with as much steel on the blade to begin with is not odd at all. In fact, I would love it if you could order that as an option for any knife. But unfortunately it just doesn't work that way, so I don't ask :)

Ok my point was missed. I have reprofiled knives and will be getting a Krein regrind soon. That is post delivery!

The knives are marked Krein regrind because of problems between Ricks custom and production models. One person might keep a reprofiled knife forever others would use that as a marketing ploy to jack prices up selling custom knives. He might not be insulted but it messes with business and warranty issues. This is the same problems strider and others are dealing with.

I know he was making a passing comment. Not trying to start a pissing match.

All true but not relevant to Knifenut's request. He was obviously requesting to sharpen the edge for personal use. Besides, it's not as though there are custom ground ZT0551s floating around that are worth more than the production models.

Its not a disrespectful request because it's only the edge not the whole knife.

A factory sharpening is held in too high of a regard by most, they apply a edge in seconds I take hours, the level of precision is vastly different. I simply wanted a fresh slate to start a perfect grind from the beginning.

My comment was not intended to offend anyone and in truth if I could order every knife without a factory sharpening I would.
