Newb here, and first post!

He just stated he hasn't set a budget yet. You can apologize anytime you see fit
You'll be waiting quite a while, since hyperbole seems, recently, to be your stock in trade.

A person comes to the forums asking for some advice for a not too bulky EDC knife he doesn't want to spend a lot of money on for some mundane tasks, from whittling to cutting weed-eater line, and your recommendation is a CRK knife which will cost at minimum $500 to $600?

What happens to the poor guy if it has or develops some vertical or horizontal play which you seem to have been so concerned about of late?
(Perhaps one of those other knives you were lauding would be more appropriate under the circumstances.)

But, if that was the best advice you could render to this "newb"... so be it.

That's as close to an apology as you're going to receive for what I take to be a not serious reply to his request.

I'll reconsider my position if he decides to go with the Inkosi, however.

SAKs are great for people that like them (and a lot of people do... I'm just not one of them).

U Uncle Lem have you given any thought to what TYPE of knife you want. You said pocket knife, but that can mean a lot of things. Do you want a traditional pocket knife (the descriptor on that section of the exchange is "old timey" - think relatively small, no pocket clip, two hands to open & close) or "modern folder" (pocket clip, locking mechanism, one hand opening via thumb stud, flipper tab, hole, etc). They're very different categories, and knowing which you prefer will help us make useful recommendations.

As an example, this is a classic example of a traditional knife.

I long preferred single blade knives over those with two or more; but I have developed an appreciation for this style.

The Buck 501 is also a great option

if you aren't opposed to a backlock

Welcome! Also the first thing that came to mind was a Spyderco Delica (or Endura for increased size). Quality build that doesn’t break the bank. Slim profile and light weight. Both models come in a variety of steel choices (that’s a whole other kettle of fish). Highly recommended!

I haven’t really made up my mind just yet. I’m probably leaning towards the more traditional pocket knife with multiple blades, but I haven’t ruled out the more modern folder type knife either. I have only recently found the forum and decided it would be nice to start carrying a pocket knife again since I haven’t had one in years! I really appreciate everyone’s input, as I know it’s a lot to ask, but I guess it’s like I’m starting over as I haven’t even carried a knife in years.

Thank you so much, I will definitely check that out!

I’m on a WeKnife kick right now. Not too expensive but you didn’t specify other than mentioned. I like the Nafaris very much but they’re getting harder to find now. It’ll set you back about $315.

In addition: welcome to the forums!!

Thank you so much for the recommendation and welcome!

In that case, I'll change my recommendation to a Case 3318 (I prefer their CV over stainless) or Camillus 72 (the top one in my last post - you'll probably have to hit eBay for that one, as they are no longer made).

Actually, I have an idea - give me a few, I'll be right back.

Thanks so much for all your help, I really appreciate it!😊

Welcome to BF!!!!! I may have missed this but can you narrow down your preferred budget.

1. Under $50
2. $50-$100
3. $100-$200

Which of these three options fits your budget and if happens to be over $200, this opens up a whole new world of options.

Thanks, right now I’m probably looking at option #2. I’ve just recently found the forum and since decided on trying to find a new knife for EC. I haven’t really even started shopping just yet.😊😉

You could spend $20 on a squid....$35 on a civivi elementum, or bump it $20 ish bucks and buy a Lander from Knafs, great small company based out of Utah, good people. Yeah, shameless plug for my favorite folding knife company.
Or as mentioned before for multi function any of the before mentioned swiss army knives are a good daily pocket option.

Ok. That’s going to land you in mostly Chinese made/assembled knives that will still be very capable. SAKs are great but I don’t care for them because I prefer my EDC to have a pocket clip and SAKs are bulking in my opinion. Maybe there are some SAKs with a pocket clip????

Maybe consider any Spyderco models under $100 and you won’t go wrong like the Spyderco Persistence, Endela, Delica

Buck 112 Slim.

Leatherman Free K4X, but it’s bulky

Giant Mouse Ace Iona(premium steel M390, phosphor bronze washers for $100 made in Italy instead of most options under $100 will be made in China) made in China is not necessarily the worst thing but I don’t prefer it.

Spartan Blades Talos

I would strongly discourage you from buying anything Cold Steel or SOG as they are now owned by a massive company called GSM.

You can also go to DLT Trading website and select knives and then refine your search by price and they already have $50-$100 as an option.

If you twisted my arm and made me reccomend 1 under $100, any Spyderco!!!!

Thanks for your reply, just looking for an everyday carry, that would not be too bulky in the pocket that could be used for multiple jobs, from whittling to cutting weed eater line. Not looking to get too expensive, since I want to use it everyday. Many thanks.
Skip the pocket knife and get yourself a Leatherman multi-tool. If you are doing yard work or stuff around the house or whatever it will be able to do anything a pocket knife can do and more. I find my Leatherman Supertool is indispensable when doing stuff around the yard. You'll need the wire cutters for weed whacker line. I have found that stuff is very tough on knife blades and isn't as easy to cut as you would think.
