Newbie collaboration knife?

The "Master Task List" has been updated.

  • We still need a volunteer to make the decorative cap on the hawk.
  • We still need a volunteer to do the sharpening.
  • We have a change in grinding. Eric Fleming will still be grinding the hunter and camp/bowie. However, he will not be grinding the hawk. I need a volunteer to grind the hawk. Don't be shy! It doesn't matter how much you're already doing, we need someone that has the confidence to grind this very important piece. Come on guys, someone step up!

Attached is the updated task list.

I'm still waiting on contact information from many of you (you know who you are). It's important that we have shipping address information from all of you, so that we can get the knives to and from each maker. Email your contact information to me at scott.ickes@timken.com. Your information will be kept confidential and will only be given to those individuals that need your shipping information to get the pieces to you.

 Initial hawk grinder at your service. Sending email

Kerry Hampton is now our Hawk grinder! Congrats Kerry.

I'm am attaching the updated Master Task List to include Kerry.

I've read back through all 200+ posts to this thread. Early on we had some individuals who had expressed interest in joining our little venture. I've not heard from them in a while. I still want to include them. There are makers on our list that are pulling double duty and there is room for everybody.

Gentlemen, I don't think I have the four of you on the Master task list. If you're still interested email me at scott.ickes@timken.com. We can definitely use you!

See my edited post.

I don't think we want them soldered on prior to heat treat. You won't even get the knives until after heat treat.

Yea....solder go bye-bye at 1400 degrees :) Probably would vaporize actually....

To deker,
Any news?

Here's the poop from south central PA...I'm in the middle of working on a commissioned piece or two that I need to get done to get some $$ in the door before Ashokan. I've got the billet for this project laid up but not worked on yet. I'll be visiting a friend with a forging press sometime in the next month or so (I hope) and will probably get the bulk of the heavy work done there since this will be a very large billet (for me anyways...it's starting at 1.5"x6"x4" or so). Because of the extra height required to get the mass needed for all three pieces, it won't fit under my power hammer :grumpy:

So, sorry to delay launch a bit folks, but I promise I'll make the end result worth the wait ;)

You know you're likely to be stuck in a car with me for a long time pretty soon right? :p

As soon as I can get it done it'll get done, trust me. I want to see what merriment ensues once I ship it all off!

Ooops....dang, that almost slipped my mind... Hey, you like listening to Johnny Cash full blast, don't you? :D

Johnny Cash? (shivers)

I'm not a fan of country music and I "HAVE" to go to the Grand Ole Opry next week. I'm not looking forward to it. It's a company outing. I had a company outing there last year too. We weren't allowed to duck out of it last year, and we're not allowed to duck out of it this year either.

They did take us to a country rock bar last year though that was pretty good.

Johnny Cash for an extended period of time. Holy Cow!

Deker....
Take you time buddy. This isn't a race. I do know one thing. Once you send out the word that the pieces have been shipped, I'm going to be like a little kid with Christmas a few days away. I can hear my wife now. "How many times are you going to check the front porch for that stinking package?" :p :)

You damned southerners! ;)

I'm generally not TOO picky about music. Cash is about my only exclusion to the "no country" rule...you lucked out mister ;)

Hell, let is be a race....I'm comfortable in the fact that none of the rest of you can even leave the blocks until I'm already finished... :D
