Newbie collaboration knife?

Well gentlemen,
I've finally put together the Preferred Tasks List with the Estimated Strength and Weaknesses List. I've come up with a proposed Task List.

Trading tasks is ok on ONE CONDITION! If you trade tasks with someone, I must be informed so that I can keep track of who will be doing what! Other than that, if you aren't excited about the task or tasks listed for yourself, please feel free to express it to me first. This list is very flexible, and I had to do a lot of unscientific flip flopping in my head, trying to determine who would do what. We will most likely be able to find a different task for those that might not be excited with what they have on this list.

Please be assured, I'm not dictating tasks, just trying to get a starting point for discussion. Trading, or asking to have someone else do something is definitely permitted. Asking to have a task that is assigned to another person is also permitted. Please funnel all requests through me, so that we have a sense of structure to any changes made to this list.

I'm just hoping that I don't disappoint or make anyone mad.

Please note that there are some openings on the list. I need volunteers to perform these tasks!

I think that we've done a very good job of designing this project and am eager to move onto these upcoming stages.

Let's have fun with this!

I'm not sure why I'm down for the grinding part...I'm sure there's others here that could get it done much faster. I don't have a belt grinder for metal, I'm still using files.

Fair enough. Would you like to volunteer for one of the "OPEN" tasks?

I've made some changes to the grinding tasks in this revised list.

I'm pretty good friends with the jewelry teacher at my local high school, I could do the inlay and if I get in trouble I'd have someone to help me. She does wire inlay on the jewelry boxes her husband makes.

FAN STINKING TASTIC!

I was worried about this one. Thanks Jared!

This is the most up to date task list. I removed the previous ones, to avoid confusion.

And yet, I was confused since I couldn't find it on your previous post

I'll also volunteer to cleanup & etch blades. It would be kind of neat to come full circle with my damascus.

I think that is a great idea. It is yours! Congratulations!!

The task list is updated.

We have two tasks that haven't been filled yet. One is the decorative top end of the hawk handle. The other is sharpening.

I nominate Joe Mandt to do the decorative top end. If I don't get a volunteer for the sharpening, then I'll take it.

Any volunteers?

WooHoo!!! I get the guards! Have we decided on what material we're using for it? Stainless, nickel, brass, copper, chewing gum? Figure I could at least set some material aside so it's ready for when the time comes....

Enthusiasm! I like it. In some earlier emails and discussions, we had talked about Nickelsilver. I don't think that we should use brass. I think we should have a material that is deserving of Moran's Curly Maple.

I'm thinking that it should be something that flows with the silver wire inlay.

It is ultimately up to the group.

Any suggestions?

My vote is nickel silver or stainless. I lean more towards nickel silver only because I find it's a little easier to shape and polish. I'm not a fan of brass, but it can have it's place. I still have some plum stain that I'm dying to try out.

Team,
Please take pictures as you do your part and email them to me. I'll keep a file of all of the pictures on my computer and will then burn them onto a cd for the entire team. I'll mail a copy of the cd to each member of the team when we're all done. That way, we'll have an entire album of pictures from beginning to end.

There's something ironic as hell in that statement...I mean, how much brass did Bill use with curly? A lot...I assure you. That said, I agree with Nickel Silver on this one. It'll go nicely with the inlay :)

Also, I could set up an image gallery on my website that could be updated by participants as we work. I'd ust have to make logins for everybody.

I just had an idea for the presentation box. I know scary huh? :D Last year I ran the laser engraver at my school and did quite a bit of experimentation with it. One of the things I got fairly good at was cutting thin metal. I was thinking it'd be pretty cool to cut everyone's actual signature out of brass and put it on the top of the presentation box. I'm pretty sure I could get permission to do that. What are your thoughts about it? I was thinking do it out of really thin brass and put it under whatever laquer/coating is used to finish the box. I could also just make some sort of plaque.

Keep going. Don't stop there. How about a mosaic pin inlayed in each corner to match the mosaic pins on the knives, with matching silver wire inlay in the "comet pattern coming off of the mosaic pins just like it looks on the handles. There would still be plenty of room for everyone's name.

I'd need everyone to email me a decent scan of their signatures. It'd be easier to vectorize if it was written with a sharpie or some other thick marker. I'm up for trying the box inlay if the group likes that idea. For the signatures would the signatures look better by themselves or inscribed on a sheet?

Could it be done with thin nickel silver?
