Hey Icky, would it be a good idea to put the final drawings on Post #1 so that we can find them easily for reference purposes?...AND any other pertinent lists or dorkumentation as well.![]()
Good Idea, but instead, I will put on Post #1 where all the most important posts are, so that people can go right to them. Don't have time to search the entire thread today to figure it out, but I'll get it done.
Slacker....you'd think you had a real job or something!Have fun in Sacramento. I grew up about 4 hours from there in Susanville, CA.
Susanville? What kind of sissy name is that for a hometown?![]()

The hawk is on the way to Knife Head as we speak
I really bit off more than I could chew on this hawk. Forging knives, I'm all over it... forging hawks, I'm pretty wet behind the ears. So I had to borrow tools, recruit a striker, etc etc.
I left it extra meaty to grind down, especially around the eye. I figured there ought to be some margin of error for adjusting centering.
The damascus performed fabulously, Deker, and it's going to be gorgeous, no doubt about it (you can see the layers when you pull the billet out of the fire- don't know whether it's different cooling or different oxidizing in the air, or both). I think I jiggered it up a little right at the very end. There's a bit of a start of a crack at the base of the spike. Not the damascus' fault- I think I tried to straighten it too cool. I hope it grinds out!![]()
