Newbie collaboration knife?

Bump Bump Joe!

You've got a press running, I had to drive 400 miles round trip to use one to make that steel I sent you! All you need yours for is to draw out a tang! :D

Yeah, yeah, yeah:p It has been forged and is resting in a trashcan of vermiculite even as we speak. I went by the dimensions on the drawing, so whoever is griding it should not be surprised that this is not a ridiculously large competition cutter. It's 10+ by 1 1/2 wide just like the diagrams said with plenty of meat on the tip so that you can decide how hihg the tip will be.:D I have a little piece of the billet elft. What should I do with it? And no comments about putting a light coat of oil on it, etc.:D

Forge a cap for the hawk for me to fit and do some file work on!

I think that's a GREAT idea! I knew we could work some filework into this thing!!!:D

Joe,
I got your email about this and responded. I'm glad to see that you've got everything up and running. Mr. Fleming will be glad to begin grinding. I called him and gave him a heads up that the knife was on it's way.

We're cookin' now!!!!!!!

I've been following this thread. You guys (and gal) are doing an awsome job. You know for Noob's yall got some nice equipment. Look'in good, really good. Needs more pics.

what kind of cap?

I was going to do a stainless top for the handle of the 'hawk where it comes out of the drift hole, but if you can just pound out a flat a little larger than drift hole (material willing), I can shape, polish, file and etch it then pin it into the top of the handle.

Ok...give the dimensions you want.

Scott or Kerry will have to measure / trace & scan the drift hole. Anyone?

You'll have to get them from the next guy in the chain..........assumming it doesn't go in the trash can...lol:D That thig was a littel tricky because the ricasso had tobe pretty narrow relatively speaking so we would have enough room to ge that fancy filework in. ope I didn't mess it up:eek: I left the blade and ricasso pretty beefy so that there would be extra material to work with.

Hey Joe, just got a call from one of my kids that there is a package at my house from a person named Joseph Mandit. I assume that is the forged bowie! Excellent news. I've also got a VM from Scott saying that it was on its way. I am currently out of town until August 9th. Once I'm back I'll get to grinding both the camp knife and bowie. :D

Man, I cannot wait to see what you sent. It's like Christmas in July (but will have to wait until August for me)... I'll post pics of pre, during and post grinding as soon as I'm back.

Eric

Nope...the excitement was just a red herring...Check back in August. :)

Well, it's August Deker. :) Got back in town today and rushed to see what Joe sent. What a cool bowie. Nice job Joe.

Now that I had the style of the bowie and the camp knife, it was time to start grinding the camp knife.

Here is a terrible picture of both knives prior to work. Sorry about the poor quality if pic...

Room has been left for fancy file work. I do need to hear from the person that will be doing the handle. I need to know if you want pin holes drilled in the tang and if so, what location(s) and what size. I also need to know if you need any more removal of material to work with the guard you have in mind. I think I have a pic of the whole knife including tang. Let me go back through my pics and post a pic.

Yes, Scott, it's starting to get exciting again... :D
