I agree, no offense to anyone in the Newbie KITH but this is NOT a newbie knife.
Many of these are not newbie knives, yall are doing some good work.

I think Steve blew the rest of us out of the water though. :) That thing's just awesome.

I was asked to take a look at R.E Rock's knife, and I agree with the others that it would be more well placed in the regular KITH.

Steve has asked me to move his entry to the Christmas KITH.

From me, WOW!!!! That is a very, very nice looking blade. I would be proud to use it, as would anyone else.

Why??? Steve entered this KITH because he considers himself a newbie. He's been a member of bladeforums for less than 2 years. He made a great looking knife. Is it good enough to be in the other KITH, YES! Is it in the spirit of the KITH for "others" to suggest that it is too good for this KITH? I sure hope not. If it is, then that makes this KITH the "Lesser Knife KITH" and not a "Newbie KITH". In which case, someone judged mine, Geek, Matt, Jon, Husker, and Remy's knives to not be good enough for the other KITH. I find that very insulting. I received a Christmas KITH knife last year and my entry this year is every bit as good as the knife I received last year. I entered it in the newbie KITH because I am still a newbie, not because I didn't think it was good enough for the other KITH. For "others" to suggest that a knife is too good implies that a knife can be "not good enough" and I won't believe that that is the spirit of the KITH.

Unky and I were advised not to enter two KITHs because it wasn't in the spirit. But it is in the spirit to take a great knife away from the newbies? I can't be the only one that sees something wrong here.

You're not, but I figured it's a toss up. Having two kiths is bound to have this kind of issue where there's an overlap. I'm looking at it this way. My knife has nothing to make it stand out, it's just a nicely executed knife. The spacers, bolsters, hamon.... are all more advanced techniques that put that knife into the next category. Any one of them might not be enough, even all of them more roughly done might not have, but the overall result certainly fits in the other kith.

I looked at it from Steve's perspective and decided it was fair to HIM as the maker, and faith to the person that gets it. At that point, while I have a bit of regret that my chance of being that person is gone, it was not worth concerning myself with.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw that the blade was moved. If the maker (who I am sure had been watching the thread) still wants to put their knife in this kith then that's what should happen. Just my opinion

X2. I found it odd that it was moved also...didn't seem quite "right" but then again, I thought it could just be my way of thinking...

I can not disagree with anyone, I will honor what ever is necessary, just let me know who to send it to and when and it's a done deal.

I truly apologize for the apparent confusion.

Note to Steven B, Geek, my original posting in this thread(no sheath) will be drawn for in the NEWBIE KITH.

Request to Stacy to return original posting back to this drawing and delete any other postings in Christmas KITH.

The confusion in this incident starts and ends with Me, no others are or need to be involved, I apologize to all involved.

here's how I see it..

obviously there was much more time and effort put into the knife when he forged it, I mean he split w2 with a hacksaw:eek:, most "newbies" use stock removal but he completely forged this bad boy..

at this time it was 'not' moved into the other kith for the obvious reasons, the knife was not finished...

he put the final details to a 'forged' blade that sent it over the top and made it stand aside from the rest, is he a newbie in knife making? maybe, a newbie to a forge?? not so much...

regardless, there was a lot of love put into this blade and it obviously shows, does it make it better the rest of the entry's?? hardly not, just a different technique used to achieve his desired results..

My entry will be far from this, and unfortunately I've had hardly any time to work on my knife as pressing life issues have superseded, however I do intend to finish my knife as promised and it will be a quality blade, if I had time and caressed a blade to that level to the best of my ability's it would still be a newbie knife, if my knife "of that quality" was moved to the other kith I would be torn between the two, as I would be flattered and kinda saddened that I left the others behind, myself personally I'm in no way insulted but I'd never put a knife of that quality in a newbie kith..

therefore I think it was wrong to be moved as it was placed in this kith, regardless of value or quality.. Steve I have high respect for you as a person and a smith, true gentleman... my kith hats off to you :)

just my 0.02...

I am sorry if I have precipitated things by posting that this was not a newbie knife, which it isn't of course but that's beside the point. A lot of factors and a lot of people in play here and I think that trying to objectively see this is impossible. The simplest thing is to leave the maker the choice. I just hope that this doesn't turn people away from the KITHs. They are a good thing and I will be participating if times permit next year. Again I apologize.
