Newbie KITH WIP page.

R.Rock I think you should keep the guard like you had it, and the handle does look better. You guys are doing some awesome work I hope mine looks as nice.

I also got some grinding done,

The shiny one is out of a piece of CPM 154 I had, so that one is off to Peters Heat Treat tomorrow, then I can concentrate on the other two forged blades.

Just thought I would post a quick update.

Everyone, If you were to receive a bushcraft style knife, then ask yourself this question: jimping or no jimping.

I would like to know what you guys would prefer, and where.

You guys are doing some nice work. I'm still hoping to get in on this Kith but do not want to commit, only to have to back out due to other responsibilities.

Personally, I'd take the jimping. But it's not that big of deal to me. I have knives with and without jimping and I like 'em all!!

Jimping is nice but very hard to make depth of cuts and spacing even without a mill, can be done ... just difficult, at least for me.

I honestly don't care for jimping at all. I have some knives with it and i still use them, however it just isn't appealing to me. I do not put them on any of my knives. It is your knife however so make it to the standards you like.

I have made several knives for hunting buddies that requested the jimping along the spine for a little extra control when the knife is covered in blood. Having used both with and without, I prefer with.

I have 10 knives scribed on bar stock , choppers , hunters . wharncliffe, tanto , reverse tanto and my jump knife minus the silliness in the tang.52100, 1084 and 1095 are the steels for them . One of those will be the KITH but first I have to get my belt grinder running again and right now I'm tackling a heavy duty work bench with built in lights power bar , drawers and peg board which came in 1000 parts . I think they went out of their way to disassemble it more just to screw me over . I also have an almost finished chopper that's my interpretation of "the hunted " knife which just needs the handles shaped but I think I want to keep it for me if it turns out how I think it will. Are you guys doing burls I have a whole wack of awesome tri- color g-10 and thin liner stuff to that I plan to use . I could post a pick of the bar stock and have you guys judge which one I should use , a lot of imagination will be needed.

I like jimping, as long as it's not too aggressive.

Finally an update guys! Way too little shop time for me lately. Because I've been so busy with school I have decided to lighten my knife workload so I can make sure this one gets done in time. That means as of right now I'm only working on one of this model for the KITH and a small order...

I'm loving this model more and more each time I hold it! I'm jealous that I won't get to keep this one for myself now haha, at least I will have 2 more made at some point... then I might keep one ;)

Got the whole knife 98% sanded at 120 grit. Evened up the edge all over and drawfiled the bevels nice and flat on the remaining side. I'm sitting at 0.025 on the whole edge at the moment. That should be about 0.020 by the end of the hand sanding to 400grit before heat-treating. Calipers were a great investment

Should have this one mailed out by the end of the week!

Oh, and look what showed up in the mail today! My extra special bolster material... now to go get some FC!!!!

Well I have a couple done. I have a batch to send out to heat treat. I think I will still be right but Ill see how I go. I have to go to PNG for work for a week in November now. That might screw me up for time. Ill have to see how it goes. Any way here are a couple that might be up for the KITH, both D2 (my favourite stock removal steel at the moment). one has a swedge (the first one that hasnt been a throw away. Still got a bit more sanding to do before heat treat. Hopefully get them out Friday.

And I know that I havent drilled holes in the second one yet. My drill press chuck crapped itself. So I am waiting on a new one to show up!

mine is in 1084, so 440C is an upgrade. this kith is about putting our best into the knife, not getting out every last scratch, having perfect plunges, or having the most ergoed handle since the first knife. whatever steel you have on hand will be fine.

Ripping a W2 billet? I am duly impressed. Improvise, overcome and prevail. Your work looks great - keep us posted!

Yeah, makes me about as sharp as a hammer! It did motivate me to find a bandsaw, a machinist in town told me I could use his anytime I wish ... I told him I would definitely take him up on that.

Just worked in the shop for another 2.5 hours... blank is all finished up to 400 grit. Heading to HT tomorrow. Some time to breath now while I wait for it to return :D
