Newbie KITH WIP page.

Makers mark applied today. Gonna drill, shape and epoxy on some handles, finish it up tomorrow or sunday :thumbup:
 
Marks on, scales are on, just finishing sanding the scales and will hopefully have a complete package for the "I'm ready" thread by sunday

You get those clips at TSC Jon. I was using the same thing forever than finally splurged and bought myself a bunch of little ratcheting bar clamps!

Honestly I don't remember where I got them... i'd have a whole bucket full of them that I've always remembered having around for making models and wood working haha

Got a little more hand sanding before HT today. Should have the scales ready and glued up tomm.
 
No pics, but I just finished gluing up. Hopefully the bocote takes a set on the glue properly. It's my first time working with it. I followed the usual recommendations for prepping the glue side but I'm always paranoid.

The storm we had here really put me behind schedule but I'm catching up. I hope to have at least the knife itself finished tomorrow, so if anything goes wrong or I'm not confident in the glue's hold I have time to restart.

The bocote is interesting, that's for sure. I'm not sure if I want to buy a bunch to use it regularly or consider it a one time thing.
 
Better pics and sheath finished. I've put a small tek-lok on the back that's got the sharp edges sanded and it now opens and closes nicely without biting fingers. I just need to pick up a box and I'm done.

Well, I had a little problem with my KITH entry. You can see the thread here.

That knife gave me fits from the very start. I guess it's fitting to end up that way, it didn't really surprise me what happened.

I'm starting over. If I see I can't get it done, I have some other blades already hardened that I haven't gotten around to, I'll use one of those. But I'm really hoping I can get this one done!!!

Stay tuned, looks like this one is going down to the wire...

Should be able to finish up the shaping tomorrow during the games, should make deadline without a problem. This has been fun watching all the entry's come together.

Two I made up for the KITH. I really like how the black blade knife turned out. It's D2 with ceramic gun kote finish and cocobolo/canvas micarta handles. The stonewashed knife is S30V with ironwood and canvas micarta scales. Now to work on the sheaths. I think I'll use the black bladed knife for the kith.
 
Both are excellent. Personally I like the stone washed S30V knife better, but both are lovely.
