Newly Discontinued ZTs

Add BladeHQ, GPKnives and KnifeWorks to the list of ZT dealers with blowout prices on these discontinued models. Some of the prices are even lower than the lowest pre-MAP enforcement prices.

:-)

I wonder, with all these popular models being discontinued, how long will it be before they run out of extra blades for replacements? If anyone has been thinking about taking advantage of that now is the time.

Well, out with the old in with the new. The models that are being discontinued have been in production for some time, and they won't be hard to find for awhile, I'd guess at least. . .We still have the 0560BW and the 0550BW, and I'm sure ZT will populate their line up with some cool new pieces for 2015. :)

And they're keeping the aluminum 0770??? I thought for sure that one would go. Seems really pointless now, since the cf version is what almost everyone prefers

This was an LE from the beginning.

The 0770 Aluminum was never a regular production model although they produced several thousand.

The 0300 series has been the iconic ZT for me. As Scurvy mentioned, though, it's been around for 8 years (or more?).

There have been a number of new models in recent years though, and I would guess they have more designs in the works. In just the last couple of years, there have been a slew of new releases of both in-house designs and collaborations with Hinderer, Rexford, RJ Martin, Emerson, and Sinkevich. I can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves going forward.

There are still a lot of each of those models in circulation (new and second-hand), so it's not as if they'll be especially difficult to find if you are still looking. The clearance deals that a several dealers are offering on those models also provides a great opportunity to get ahold of one now at a good price.

The way I see it:
- This frees up resources at ZT to design and produce new knives - win
- The number of knives already in circulation can meet current and near future demand - win
- Clearance deals from dealers makes the knives available to us at lower cost - win

One positive for me is that hopefully they'll tap Rick Hinderer for more sweet designs. I mean, they've copied his actual knives (Eklipse and XM-18), so now it's time to retreat back into Hinderer-designed knives, I would think.

Hopefully, between the 2015 SHOT and Blade Shows we'll see some new models to address a lack of folders with blade lengths greater than 3.5 inches now that the 0200, 0300 and 0560 series have been discontinued. I just can't imagine ZT without a big folder!

Something tells me they will be up to the challenge!

I don't buy the life span theory. However, anything is possible I suppose. I know one thing, I'm absolutely going to buy another couple 0300 series and 0200 knives to sock away, as well as the 0550. I need to get a black bladed one as well.

I need to just shut up and get a Blackwash 0550 already!

The had better! Still think not keeping the 0560 is a bad idea but I guess this does mean the will come out with new stuff.

This was an LE from the beginning.

Wait what? But they're still for sale in many places. Are there really just that many in existence that they appeared to be production?

Hmm, I never would have guessed. Thanks for the info

There are two that I don't see at a sale price anywhere: 0301 (although 0301ST can be had for a killer price) and 0560BW.

Some of the dealer exclusive are also not on sale: BladeHQ's 0550BW.

Thanks for posting. I picked up another 560 which I wanted to have after mis-sharpening it.

But I have a question: if these knives are being discontinued, isn't it counter-intuitive that suppliers will be discounting them?

Not if they're just sitting on the shelves! They probably haven't sold very many of these since MAP enforcement a month ago.

It's really difficult to believe the 0560 & 0550 are being discontinued. I know they recently updated the 0550 with a steel lockbar insert, but I don't think they updated the 0560. I may have to pick up an 0560 to go with my 0561.

My 560BW definitely has a lockbar insert, super surprised they are discountinuing the 560 series... Also glad I decided to keep my now 😄

Grrr this annoys me. I'd been wanting to get a SG Bad Monkey, but now with the 0560 being $179 at GP Knives, which do I choose?
