Newly Discontinued ZTs

Hmmm. All I remember is paying $99 from an online dealer for a brand new 0200. I doubt we'll ever see pricing like that again from ZT.

Yeah but you didn't pay that when the 0200 first came out...

Your comment was about initial pricing.

I'm actually glad to see that they're discontinuing some of the more stagnant models (03xx, 0200, the fixed blades) in favor of newer, more exciting options. The flipping action on 0560 isn't really in line with what they're doing now so I can't say that one is a surprise either, even if it was the flagship model for a while. This also means that ZT is listening to the customers, since the models they're discontinuing represent trends that aren't nearly as popular as they once were (intense recurves, softer detents, spring assistance).

I can't explain discontinuing the 0550. That one still comes as a surprise to me.

True. Guess I was thinking more along the lines of what an 0200 could be had for when I bought mine. Those days are long gone, I'm afraid.

My guess is that part of the reason ZT is discontinuing some of their more popular knives is so they can use new releases to ease the pain of imposing MAP pricing. It's difficult to complain about the price of a knife if it was the cheapest it was ever going to get on the day it was released. If you don't like the price of a new release, all you can say is that it was too expensive from the outset, not that it became too expensive over the course of time due to pricing policies imposed by the manufacturer.

I don't know that anyone has granular details, but I would assume if you don't see it heavily discounted, it's not discontinued.

More bandwidth for new collaborations and designs...I for one am a happy dude.

I think a ZT/Brian Tighe collab would be amazing!

That would certainly get my attention. Problem is, Brian seems to be married to CRKT. In fact, CRKT featured his design on one of their high-end folders . . . the Buy Tighe:

That isn't the design I would have wanted to be CRKT's first choice for a high-quality, Tighe-designed knife, but it's a corker!

In looking at specific models at some online ZT dealers the following 15 models are marked as discontinued with heavy discounts:

  4. 0200ST
  5. 0200SW

No doubt he is one of best machinists in the industry, but those designs are a bit too busy and artsy for me. I'd like to see what else Ernie Emerson, Rick Hinderer, and the in house designers can offer. I will readily admit, I have not been able to pick up a 0562 or a 0620, but they are on my list of pieces to buy. When I had the money ready, they had been out of stock so there went that idea.

Oh man, I LOVE the Tighe Coon. A ZT Tighe Coon with KVT and a button lock would be irresistible to me:

I like where your heads at Rev. Plenty of good utilitarian collabs to be had...more from the Russians...And I can think of 4-5 US guys who would be great additions.

Coye, Finn, George, Budak, Jason Clark anyone?

I don't think the 0560BLK is Discontinued.

I got a Wilson Combat "StarRaider" by Brian Tighe a while back. A remarkable 4" blade flipper that weighed about 4.5 ounces. Unfortunately, ZT has not shown any fondness for something other than liner or frame locks except for the G&G Hawk 0500.

Very nice. I'm not holding my breath anticipating any kind of alliance between Brian and ZT. ZT has its hands full with the likes of Rick Hinderer, Todd Rexford and Ernie Emerson. That should keep them busy for awhile.

Lets not forget the two autos they did, 610 and 650

You forgot RJ Martin and Sinkevich....

Tighe already has a deal with CRKT so you can rule him out.
