Newly Discontinued ZTs

Grrr this annoys me. I'd been wanting to get a SG Bad Monkey, but now with the 0560 being $179 at GP Knives, which do I choose?

Hint: the one which is discontinued!

If you're looking at the regular Hinderer, they made it easy on you. It was out of stock when I looked at their site a half hour ago. I bought one for $200 somewhere else. I think it was the second site that someone posted on this thread.

I already have 2 0560s but am now thinking of getting another. Damn you ZT! This is a great way to sell knives. Just tell people you are done selling them...

Zon has them for $195...

$179 at GP is great except you have to pay tax with them if you live in Illinois, based on your zip code/county...Which is 10% where I live...Sigh

Get the ZT wherever you can. Zac Brown ain't going anywhere anytime soon. Emerson isn't done with him yet :D

Wow I am very sad to see that the 0550 and 0560 will go :( People love the 0560, I am very shocked that one is going... I really need to get another 0550 now

Had a 200 in the past and sold it. It was a great knife construction wise and value wise, but just so big. Well, I just grabbed one at the great prices. Maybe this one will grow on me and find it's place in the mix.

3 560's, had thought of selling one last week, but will stash it away as a "spare" now!

hate to see the 561 go, that's my favorite ZT.

Just dropped the hammer for a ZT200SW, could not pass up these prices.

I think the reason for them being discontinued is that people are not going to pay MAP for these knives I mean $260 for for the 560 Elmax steel is kind of high $200 for the 550 and the other knives are over price at MAP . So they are getting rid of these in order to keep there MAP .

I'm going to have to pick up another 550 and send my 561 in for warranty asap as it has developed blade play from flipping after a few weeks. I hope they come out with something better than the 550 which is going to be hard to replace.

I don't see how they are related. The MAP enforcement was a pretty recent development due to dealer abuse. You think when it comes to discontinuing models that's a decision you make quickly? You have to plan on when they are going to go and especially what's going to replace them.

I'm willing to bet the vast majority of these have been on life support for a while.

If the knives don't move they get discontinued . The cost to make the 560 is very high and there is no value at MAP . Maybe they weren't selling .

This reads to me like a move to make room for a whole new lineup, not putting poor sellers to bed. Given the buzz and popularity of darn near every new model they've dropped in the last few years I think they're (IMO, wisely) banking on continuing that trend and giving us a bunch of new goodies in a relatively short time frame.

Honestly, this move serves more to excite than disappoint me.

The 0560 is my hands down favorite folder...this news is a big ol' kick in the nuts. Im sure KAI has their reasons but WTF! Might be time to pick up a 0561.

Waiting on 0560BW to go on sale.

Waiting on ZT to ramp up production on 0562/0562CF and 0620CF/0620CF.

Waiting on ZT to introduce new folders with blade lengths of 3.75"-4".

Waiting on ZT to introduce new folders with blade lengths of 2.5"-3".

Exactly. I mean I guess they could be like other companies and put out the same lineup year in and year old while releasing special editions (different colors and blade steels) to keep interest up but where's the fun in that?

ZT was becoming like other companies releasing umpteen variations and special editions. This got accelerated the past year or so with CF, BW, etc.

Check out post #1 in the thread (it'll be updated soon): Zero Tolerance Current/Upcoming/Discontinued Models

KAI had hinted that the 0300 was nearing retirement a little over half a year ago, long before any of the MAP stuff was being enforced or discussed. I'd expect that discussions on which models to retire began even longer before that. And I'd also think that there would have been more than just one model being discussed in that context.

Not if they're just sitting on the shelves! They probably haven't sold very many of these since MAP enforcement a month ago.

Sadly this is the truth. Here's my not so shocked face ;) Before the ZT MAP/RPM thread became a full out fiasco, myself and others predicted that certain models would be on the chopping block due to reduced MAP/RPM sales. What surprises me is that the 550,560, and 561 are on the list.

Supply and demand always plays out. Prices went down to reasonable levels because merchandise must be moved. I find it kind of funny that within a month of dropping the hammer on discounts below MAP/RPM, KAI is letting the dealers sell off their stock. Could this be a partial admission of failure, or perhaps a planned stunt to sell off whats left?

Either way, I think ZT is making a mistake in not having a few solid "old" designs in the large blade category to stand by when new fads go by the wayside. Benchmade keeps the 710 around, Spyderco has the military, Emerson has the CQC7, what does ZT have?
