Next to bed knife?

why would i keep something sharp next to my bed when i have something shooty??

to rob my house a burglar would really really have to be awful determined. a few of the obstacles he'd have to overcome include....

1) my weird sleep patterns.

2) fenced in property roamed by a pack of 4 very noisy dogs.

3) the strings of bells hanging from all 3 doors.

4) windows with strategically placed fragile items or heavy furniture in front of them.

5) "boss" the hyper aggressive and very vocal minpin that constantly patrols the inside of the house at 130mph nonstop.

6) my horribly light sleep.

7) a deadbolt on the bedroom door.

8) 8 rounds of 12g 00 buck from my shotgun. the shotgun also has a blinding light attached to it, and if absolutely nessecary it makes a decent club when empty.

also understand that at the first sign of real trouble the girlfriend heads for the closet where there's a spare cellphone plugged in at all times and a glock 19 with a 30 round mag and a light. her sole purpose in life at that point point is to get on the phone to 911 and relay information while i keep the shotgun leveled at the bedroom door from the other side of the solid oak dresser.

so i ask again, why would i need something sharp next to my bed? wait, maybe i should mount a bayonet on the shotgun.......

Bed side manners: S&W .357 mag, 200 lumen flashlight, BK&T Reinhardt Kukri. No likely need for the Kukri. I just find it comforting.

My EDC pocket knife of the previous day may be on the nightstand - a loaded revolver is in it while another one is on my wife's side of the bed. Under the bed resides a baseball bat, too. Strong LED flashlights on both sides, as well. Six indoor cats scurrying under the bed, hissing and spitting at each other, will signify someone is 'at the door' - day or nite.

Stainz

I sleep with a Kimber 1911 in .45ACP under the other pillow. Also next to it is a Olight M30 Triton 700 lumen flashlight. Nope, don't feel the need for a knife in that situation. I only hear out of one ear, and being concerned I may not hear a break-in if it should occur, I lock and bar my bedroom door. Figuring if someone breaks in, to get through my door they are going to have to make a hellacious racket, enough to stir me with my bad hearing. Should I hear that kind of racket, there will be bullets going through the door. Knife will not be needed.

Kabar under the right pillow, sog fast hawk on the radiator next to the bed along with about half a dozen folders and a kukri and camp axe about 5 feet away. Im not a very neat person so i have bladed instruments all around the room.

Meh, whatever my pocket-dump is really...

Nowadays that includes both a small and large sebby 21... and a good light...

But the knives aren't there for my choice of SD... it just so happens I have a big baseball bat next to my bed... ;) think that'll be more effective... my room is big so plenty of room to swing away! ;)

Stay safe every1...

A case yellow trapper, cold steel tomahawk, benelli super nova, sig sauer 223 with full metal jacket, ruger vaquero in 45 long colt, 300 ultra mag, two heeler dogs in bed room, assorted coon dogs on the porch, security system, and a array of gates to open coming up a mile long driveway. So I sleep good most nights.

H&K .45 on the bedside table (no kids in the house). Small pen knife w/nail file in bedside drawer. No knives for self-defense. I figure that if an intruder has a gun, the knife doesn't help. If the intruder has a knife, then my H&K trumps his steel. So...no need for a bedside self-defense knife. ;)

I have a couple SAKs in my nightstand drawer and a small multi-tool. Mostly to fiddle with and have a screwdriver close at hand so I don't have to go out to the garage.

Whatever I carried earlier in the day.. My first line of defense however is a Rem. 870 with buckshot shells.. Nothing scarier than the sound of a shotgun pump in the dead of night
