Just looking for clarification here. Are you saying if someone breaking into someones house in the dead of night and that someone hears the sound of a shotgun chamber a round that's not scary?

That's what I'm saying. All it tells the bad guy/s if heard is they need to kill you. Just because it's repeated over and over on the internet doesn't make it remotely true.
Think about it, most people doing break-ins when they suspect a homeowner is there are the kind of people who carry their own guns. If they're tipped off buying hearing the infamous racked shotgun, do you really think they're going to run out of the house? Don't you, as a homeowner, want an element of surprise and not tip your hand?
You're better of with a dog as an early warning system and a small, concealable firearm for CCB.

And just because its oft repeated doesn't make it untrue. The sound of a pump shotgun being racked in a dark quiet house can have a sobering effect.
If they break in knowing you're there, its a pretty good indication they are either an amateur or a hit man...odds a an armature
You're premise already indicated they know you are there. Now they know you are also armed. Very good chance they will move on.
Anyway, back to the basic knife premise, we're getting too close to a PracTac thread, and none of want that.

Besides a gun, anyone here sleeping with something sharp?
Who said anything about letting them run..? LOL.. I also don't keep one in the chamber 24/7, But I'm pretty sure that I'll have enough time to rack one if need be, not to difficult. Only takes, what? A second
Btw, I have a jack russel that hears the neighbor farting next door, I'm not to worried about the surprise factor..
"Btw, I have a jack russel that hears the neighbor farting next door"
I forgot where I was, sorry. You internet warriors obviously know better...
