Nice features on new A G Russell Ti Framelock..

There's nothing wrong with being inspired by the best to help one produce the best one can do. AG Russell obviously gives credit to whom he feels is the best knifemakers around. He also tried to make a basic and sound design that not surprisingly matches the same goals other knifemakers themselves have accomplished.
And I'm assuming that he has Hinderer's permission with the Lockbar Stop which also means that AG Russell is giving great where credit is due.
And I'm lead to believe that Kershaw made this knife. Not only does the thumbstud look like ones from Kershaw, but also the lock stop.

I don't understand the negativity. Maybe if it had been properly placed in the General Knife Discussion, it wouldn't have stirred up the CRK crowd, like a challenge.

But the knife itself is aesthetically clean, balanced, great materials, well designed. No, it's not a Sebenza. It's not an XM-18, either. What it is, is another fine titanium framelock, worth considering for those with the money. And A.G. was being courteous in acknowledging the positive examples that came before and from which he drew his inspiration.

+1
Noice....another way to think about it, perhaps a better way.:D

And....if I hadn't just dropped $400.00 on a CRK Tanto Zaan, I'd seriously think about buying one.

Hell....who knows after some more research I just might.:p

I'll state this again, I think the knife is worth the price - once it's had some time to work out any bugs in the marketplace. I never buy a car in the first year of a new model, and I wouldn't buy a $400 knife until after its maiden voyage either.

One thing to consider, however, is AG's 100% SATISFACTION guarantee. If you don't like it, you can get all of your money back. I'm not sure of any other manufacturer (or contract manufacturer) that gives you that. As great as Chris Reeve Knives are, they don't give you your money back in full if you don't like the knife you just bought. I'm thankful to Mr. Russell for giving us another option to choose from in this product type.

Lots of good features on display here, if the fit and finish is on par with CRK, WH or Galyean Pro series then the price isn't out of line.

BTT since I didn't see this thread when I posted. After reading through it I still would like to handle one or get one. Doesn't look like a cheaply made knife to me.

Spot on, as usual. Thanks Esav.

Taken from another thread, from Rick Hinderer himself:

For the record The Hinderer Lockbar Stabilizer is licensed to other than myself, Strider Knives, Kershaw knives, ZT knives, and with a new AG Russel design. These are Honorable companies who came to me inquiring about using the Lockbar Stabilizer.

screw the fanboys this knife looks fantastic, as long as you can sharpen zdp

(( keep it friendly - you're not in whine & cheese ))

ARRRGH.
At 4" this would be a done deal. At 3.75" it would be over quick. At 3.625" I'm going to agonize over the thing for years to come.
Really, this knife fixes everything I didn't like about the Umnumzaan.
Oh well, once I get my hands on a Spyderco Ti RIL Military none of this will matter.:)

I'm a fan of Sebenzas and CRK overall, but what makes this a wannabe besides a Ti handle and RIL? Sebenzas don't use ZDP-189, a Hinderer Lockbar Stabalizer, switchable deep carry pocket clip, or stock double thumb lugs.

Thank you for having some sense. I was about to post the same thing until I read your reply. You beat me to it.

I doubt when AGR set out to make this knife that they were trying to copy CRK.

Neat looking knife. I dig the overall look , I like the idea of added steel on the lockbar , the Hinderer spot is a nice touch too. Personally the blade steel doesnt ring my bell and would not make or break the knife for me.

But it's not a flipper..... :) I'm saving my cash for an XM-18.

p.s. another thread turns into typical accusatory BS ??

Lighten up people ! it's the new year fer petes sake.

i think its biggest problem is the price. if it was around 200-225, it would be much more attractive, & wouldnt rival the seb so much.A.G. prices in his catalogs seem to always be so dead retail or more.i like the description of how all similar knives were broken down & studied to see what makes them tick.you would think they were breaking down a rolex or something :D

Anyone know who makes this for AG Russell? Kershaw is the only company that I know of that does zdp-189 in the US.

I do like the looks of the knife but it is over priced. But AG Russell is very high on everything. $200 street price would be more like it.

Titanium is expensive. ZDP189 is expensive. And as you mentioned Kershaw is the only company outside Japan that is allowed by Hitachi to finish ZDP. Add these 3 facts, and you get an expensive knife.

The materials are very expensive, but if this blade had a $200 street price, I'd already have ordered 2. Unfortunately at ~400.. it has ALOT of blades to compete with. XM18, Umnum, Sebbie, Customs, Pro-Series JYD/Lahar, etc...

Makes buying this knife a very tough call, unless you already have all the others...
