Nice features on new A G Russell Ti Framelock..

Looks neat - interesting features - just a bit dear for my tastes. I have yet to break the $200 barrier on a single knife, so I'm not a 'player' at that price. I got a Buck 172 Mayo TNT for Christmas - it joined a mix of Ti framelocks - BM 630/635/760 & Kershaw 1725SG2 - each is more my speed. It's axiomatic - that AGR states 'Currently Unavailable' anyway!

I do look forward to an actual use-test when it becomes available. I like stories of ancillary knife uses... like jumping a H-D's starter contacts with a Sebbie.

Anyone else think the thumb stud looks like this might be a Kershaw 1/2 brother.

I don`t mind having more choices....just wish I had the dough to cover all the bases :-)

(I`d like to see a version of this knife with a Wharnie blade on it....)

I just got off the phone with AG Russell. They did tell me that Kershaw made the knife.
Also, more will be available in February.

if kershaw made it,it shouldnt cost 375.00. even though materials are premium, it should still be offered for less....

Probably because of the pricing comparison to the Ti/ZDP leek and cyclone, or the Ti/SG2 JYD.

Please explain.

At the risk of speaking for a total stranger, I think I understand what he meant, and I don't think it was a slam against Kershaw.

KAI is a knife production company with a whole manufacturing apparatus just for the purpose of making knives. You have the economies of scale that comes from being a large knife maker and your retail prices reflect that. My interpretation of his comment is that the price being asked is up near the custom range for a knife that isn't hand made. Essentially it's the pro/con Sebenza argument [played out over a different knife.

I would have said it differently if it were my opinion. "Kershaw can make a great knife like the ZT 0300 and sell it for a little over $200 street. How did the extra Ti slab and the ZDP blade add $175 to the price?"

Actually, that's not my opinion. My opinion is that A.G. can market and price it for whatever he wishes. I think part of what you're paying for here is his design work and the fact he will graciously accept it back if you decide you don't like it 10 years from now. It's up to the individual consumer to decide it that's something they wish to support with their dollars. I'll just say that when I finally decided to bite the bullet and get a Dozier, I waited until A.G. had the one I wanted in stock so I could order it from him.

+1, IMO the ball, when it comes to marketing and pricing, is in AG's court.

No ifs about it. AG Russell, the store, shared the info to me willingly.
Kershaw makes a perfectly good knife, but like others have mentioned, the price is a tad higher than I would expect from a knife made by Kershaw. That's too bad because I'm really digging the knife.

Very cool knife but seems to me about $100-$125 too expensive. At this price point I'm comparing it to some cool mid-techs like the Sebenza, JYD Pro, XM-18 (list at least) and very close to a lot of customs.

It may be that the quality of it is worth it but given to me that I haven't seen any 3rd party reports on it I'm going to wait on the sideline and hope the price goes down before really considering buying one.

At $250 I'd order one today...

If they continue to sell out every knife made, you will have your answer as to what it is "worth". KAI in its different divisions manufactures a spectacular range of very good knives. Some are priced for a budget market, others are high end, some quite expensive.

This is a piece made to the specifications of a man who knows more about knives and marketing them than most, and his own designs and his own shop's pieces are always high quality.

Buy it if you want it, but have the dignity to acknowledge that pricing beyond your personal means is not necessarily overpricing.

Well at least you know it will be really good quality!

The hardened steel tip is a neat feature. Is it welded to the locking bar?

The pricing is fair imo. Just because you can get a Sebenza for close to that price, does not dictate that the AGR ti framelock has to be reduced by 100+ dollars.

I think I am wishing that it was cheaper because I really want one. But if the quality is exceptional, then I won't have any problem buying one.
I like the idea of having a Sebenza-ish knife with a Hinderer lock stop.

Exactly. We would all like a bargain. Sometimes the aftermarket eventually provides that.
