Nick Wheeler Prototype Fighter. "Oh YEA "......

Hey folks, just a quick note here. I switched to a different cell provider, and I currently have ZERO service while at the shop (shop is still in "old" location).... so if you try to call or text me during my work day (6am-at least 6pm if not 9pm)..... You simply will not get me.

I have full service at the new shop, which I hope to be moved into in a month or so.

So if you need to talk to me, please call or text after 6pm during weekdays (got to keep my same old number). I apologize for any inconvenience.

THANKS!!! :)

It would be awesome if your schedule does allow that the first blade out of that shop is penciled in for me. :D There would have to be tons of good energy in the process of making it, and therefore in the work itself.

Eagerly waiting.

I got a click and ship notice from Nick that the knives scheduled to come to me for sheaths will be on the way. At this point i'm not sure just who all is going to be represented in the box. I have heard from Jeff Laramee, Mike Starr, Roger Pinnock and Will York (Will's is done except for the retention strap). if you have any changes from your original selections, now would be a great time to get back in touch with me.

Paul

Paul is right

All but 2 are in route

Davids will be going out soon and Peters is almost done

Guys when ya get them please post up

Before my user went out nick said he went thru some 2 by 4s and such with it and said he was very pleased with how it performed

This is the little fighter that thought it was a full size Bowie :)

Paul-

I put a typed list in the box with a name and corresponding blade spine # (and also the mailing address for them). I was going to write each customer's name in several places on the blades in magic marker and duct tape tags on them, but I decided that might not be necessary since each new owner has a corresponding number etched right into the blade. ;) :D

Just as a heads up to that list - :)

Michael
Jeff
Jon
Roger
Greg

And a completely different one from me that needs pants too! :D

Sorry this was not a home-run on my end guys. I think the knives themselves are pretty neat-O... but I struggled with organization and focus (read ADD issues) on this a lot more than I had hoped. Luckily Angi sat me down and reminded me that while there was a lot of room for improvement on how this all went down, it was several steps in the right direction from how I've done things in the past. Hopefully you'll all feel the same way.

My good buddy Will pointed out that he hadn't seen any complaints, but I always figure there's been at least an hour of it before the service provider actually hears/sees it. :o ;)

So I think (and not to be too over-the-top corny) that as a team.... meaning Angi, me, that loveable big lug Joe, you customers, and service providers that TOTALLY have their, um, stuff... together, like Mr. Paul Long.... that this project was a big move in a positive direction for Wheeler Custom Knives. :)

THANK YOU GUYS!!!

Everyone I have spoken with is happy to be getting one of these terrific blades - I know I am. Looking forward to seeing what Paul turns out and requesting in advance a group shot by Paul of the knives in sheaths.

shoot, damn, crrap. . . I just saw this thread but want one of these reeaal bad. any way to get in on these knives? will there be a next round?

Nick,

I can only speak for myself, although fairly new to this, I am very happy. This is only the 5th custom I have purchased that has not already been made (others were in shows or here on the "for sale fixed blades"). You have actually spoiled me with this knife. The process of the WIP was so fascinating that now I would prefer all my future knives to come out of WIPs. ;) :D Anyway you can count #10 as extremely satisfied.

Thank you,
Greg Abousleman

P.S. It's a grand slam!

Nick, I'm so pleased by your success with this project. It was epic.
I'm going to give you the nickname, (sheesh, no pun there) of EpNic.

Nick ya did more than goog you did great

Everything is a learning experience and everyone here owes you something for your generosity with your time and your willingness to share your knowledge

St betting up on yourself when ya should be taking a bow

Thank you my friend

Arden call nick or pm him he might have some of the unnumbered ones available but I dont know for sure

Nick like the other's I think you did great and cannot wait to see mine once Paul is done. Oh......that reminds me. Paul I have one coming to you as well.

Thanks again Nick, I am ready for round two.

Jon

The revised and complete list helps a lot. Thanks, Nick. Everyone on the list has communicated with me concerning specific instructions (Except Jon) and Jon knows I know what he likes so I'm not too concerned there. I already have the developed patterns for all three styles of sheaths requested so the work will go pretty fast. Will wasn't on the mail list, but his sheath is already done any way. Just waiting for the knives so I can use one of them to fit his retention strap. I also have that John White hunter inbound for him so I'll just get those two out together for him. Won't be very long now.

Nick thanks for your work and dedication. They are Wheelers, so I know they are perfect!

Paul

Nick, I really hope you make a second run in the future with this knife. I will be saving my pennies up for a chance at this! It really is a winner. And to think your shop is only 70 miles away and I am regularly traveling to Battleground, I could pick it up myself.

Hey Michael :) Yea, Vernonia is just a hop, skip, and a jump away. When we get the shop moved to the new house in Castle Rock, it will only be about 56 miles from Vernonia. :)

With the response this project has had, I would probably be a huge fool not to make more of them if that sits okay with the original 10 customers. If not, then that's okay too! If it is okay... then I think it would be best to keep the original 10 as the only numbered knives.

Thanks for the amazing support guys!!! :)

I didn't think buying one of these would give me veto power over you making more--can't imagine anyone else would feel that way, either. Seems to me we got a price break for participating in the "bulk build" on the original 10, which besides a fantastic knife, also sweetened the deal--plus the immediate gratification of getting these knives so quickly (well..."immediate" for a Nick Wheeler creation :p).

Bottom Line: Producing more of this design would be between you and Joe, as far as I'm concerned.

Just wanted to check in - The knife arrived today, and it is awesome. Big, but light, as Joe has said. I have # 7 in black G10, and I really like the way it looks, since the layering effect really shows the contours nicely.

Had it sent direct to me because 1) I wanted to get my hands on it sooner :D
and 2) I am expecting a "sibling" at some point, and figure I will send them both to Paul at the same time

Nick and Joe - great job all the way around :thumbup:

Bill
